Over the last few weeks, Trump and his task force have announced major steps to battle COVID-19. Along with Congress, he has passed legislature to ensure Americans aren’t devastated economically by the strict measures they are recommending. His latest move, to ensure Americans aren’t kicked out of their homes, has garnered praise from an unlikely source.
When everything is said and done, only a portion of our population will be infected with the Chinese Virus. Perhaps a small portion. But that doesn’t mean this crisis hasn’t already impacted every last American, in big ways and small.
Lives have been upturned by fear and panic. Many have lost jobs, been forced into isolation, and live in daily concern. The economic fallout is obvious. With so much of normal life disrupted, many businesses and entire industries will feel the pain.
The government has been taking quick action to keep us afloat through all this. Already Trump has signed two bills that will provide relief and aid to workers and small businesses. More is in the works. Word is swirling that the government will inject the country with cash in the form of checks to American families.
Trump is also suspending mortgage foreclosures, halting student loan payments, and is utilizing the Defense Production Act. These strong measures will reduce the burden Americans are feeling right now. Temporary though they are, they might mean the difference between recovery and disaster.
And he got some unexpected praise from a very unlikely person: Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar.
Minnesota Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar unexpectedly praised President Trump’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic on Wednesday night, saying it was “incredible and the right response in this critical time.”
Omar, normally a staunch critic of the White House who herself has repeatedly drawn the president’s ire, went on to quote Rep. Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass., as saying “unprecedented times require unprecedented leadership” — and, Omar added, “we are seeing that in our country right now.”
“Finally, we should never let politics get in the way of good policy,” Omar concluded. “This is a great start and hope others will be part of a united front to push for good policies that will help us work through the economic anxiety the country is feeling right now.” [Source: Fox News]
Praise from a woman like this might give you pause. But it’s just a sign of the times we are in. President Trump has done countless things since he entered office that should have been applauded by all. His leadership has helped the United States reach new heights. Yet, Democrats have been unwilling to give him credit.
They’ve always ignored his success or made excuses. Because they had the luxury to do so. But as we face this invisible enemy, it’s all hands on deck. Every leader is actually forced to do what few of them are able to do: lead.
Democrats are breathing a sigh of relief with Trump in the White House. Many are even admitting it. Trump is the strong, decisive leader we need during a crisis. His no-nonsense approach and ability to delegate and make quick decisions is key during this situation. We’ve already seen state and local Democrats wilt over this outbreak.
But Trump’s got his hand on the wheel. And even longtime enemies have to acknowledge that.
Omar has no reason to applaud the choices Trump is making at a time like this. In fact, some liberal media pundits continue to spread fake news and slander against the president. But Omar is joining Democrats like Dana Bash, Gov Gavin Newsom, and Gov. Andrew Cuomo in acknowledging and thanking Trump for his efforts.
It’s rare and it may not last. But you better believe, Trump’s not going to forget it.
