President Trump may have his disagreements with Republican Senator Mitt Romney, but he is glad to hear that he does not have the coronavirus.

The president said in a tweet on Wednesday morning that it was “really great news” that Romney tested negative for the coronavirus.

In the tweet, Trump said: I am so happy I can barely speak.”

“He may have been a terrible presidential candidate and an even worse U.S. Senator, but he is a RINO, and I like him a lot!” Trump said, referencing Romney’s White House bid in 2012.

The tweet came in response to Romney, who initially announced that he had tested negative in a tweet of his own.

After having met with fellow Republican Senator Rand Paul, who tested positive, Romney stayed home and was subsequently tested.

In a tweet on Tuesday afternoon, Romney shared that he was still going to remain at home in accordance with Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines.

“Thankfully I’ve tested negative for COVID-19,” Romney wrote in a tweet. “Nevertheless, guidance from my physician, consistent with the CDC guidelines, requires me to remain in quarantine as the test does not rule out the onset of symptoms during the 14-day period.”

Breitbart reports:

Romney and Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) flew back on a private jet to Utah after learning Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), who he had close contact with in recent days, tested positive for the illness.

“If I were to get COVID-19 or if Mike were to get it, we would certainly want to be in a place where we have our own physicians and our own hospital,’ Romney said in an interview the Salt Lake Tribune. “If I’m in Washington, D.C., I don’t have a relationship with physicians there. And I don’t even know which hospital you go to.”

Romney said he will miss a vote expected Tuesday evening on Congress’s rescue package designed to alleviate Americans’ financial strain caused by the coronavirus outbreak.

“It’s very frustrating not to be there in the room where it happens, as they say,” Romney stated. “But I am doing my best to influence thinking and action, particularly on the Democratic side of the aisle.”

Trump’s remarks were widely perceived online as having been sarcastic, though many shared the sentiment that they were glad Romney was not infected.

And, despite the worry that Senators and other members of Congress could become infected with the coronavirus, many are staying in Washington, D.C. to pass a coronavirus relief package to help spur the economy and help Americans who are suffering.
