Yesterday, I posted on a Seattle Port Authority cop named Greg Anderson who was fired from his job over an Instagram post in which he bemoaned the fact that the police hierarchy and a lot of his brother officers seemed nonchalant about, if not actually anxious to, enforce the bizarre and anti-science mask-wearing, business closing, and social distancing orders that are now in vogue with totalitarian-minded governors and mayors. As it happened, he was fired on Monday, and on Tuesday, Washington Governor Jay Inslee essentially vowed to starve into submission anyone who refused to cooperate with contact tracers.

This is the key part of Anderson’s soliloquy:

I’ve seen officers nationwide enforcing tyrannical orders against the people and I’m hoping it’s the minority of officers, but I’m not sure anymore. We don’t get to violate someone’s constitutional rights because somebody in our chain of command tells us otherwise.

He’s absolutely right. Across the nation, we’ve seen police forces cheerfully, if not gleefully, enforce ‘public health’ orders that are at best dysfunctional and lead to the general disrespect for law and authority, if not downright unconstitutional and thuggish (looking at you Kentucky and California and Michigan).

Now we have another checkpoint to add on our fast freight to the re-education camps.

A police arrest of a mom for not wearing a face mask in a Brooklyn subway Wednesday — as her young child watches the struggle — was caught on video and went viral on social media.

The video, posted on Facebook Wednesday, shows the woman yelling and cursing at police officers in the Atlantic Ave.-Barclay Center subway station at about 11:50 a.m., her surgical mask pulled below her chin.

After she’s led up the stairs, an officer can be seen touching her shoulder. “Don’t touch me!” she screams, as she swings her arms, and within a few seconds, the officers surround her and bring her to the ground, while a cop leads her child away from the chaotic scene.

“Yo, yo, this is unnecessary,” a man can be heard saying, though it’s unclear if the remark is directed at the woman or the officers.

Moments later, a man says, “She’s got a kid with her! She’s got a baby with her!… She’s got her mask on! Her baby’s even got a mask on! That’s too much, man!”

The video is stunning. The woman has already been barred from entering the subway platform. On the stairs, you can see that she has a mask on though by the time she reaches the top of the stairs the mask is off…in fact the masks are off for everyone as no less than six police officers wrestle her to the floor and handcuff her.

It seems like her real offense was ‘contempt of cop.’

“Officers approached the woman and politely informed her that she cannot enter the Transit system without properly wearing a face mask,” said NYPD Sgt. Mary Frances O’Donnell, a department spokeswoman. “She responded to the officers with vulgar language and repeatedly refused requests to properly wear her face covering over her nose and mouth.”

Take a moment and think about that. It wasn’t that the woman was not in compliance with the silly rule, the incident was brought on by her not ‘properly’ wearing her mask. I’m not in New York, but even in the People’s Republic of Maryland, there is no rule on ‘how’ you have to wear your mask. Also keep in mind that this is a city in which she would not have been arrested for jumping the turnstile.

The officers then told her she’d be booted from the station, and as they escorted her out, an officer told Rozier, ““Do not do this in front of your kid, ma’am,” O’Donnell said.

Rozier swung her arms and hit an officer with her hand, the spokeswoman said, and that’s what led to her arrest. She was charged with resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and harassment, and given a desk appearance ticket.

I know, after reading the comments on the Arbery posts, there is going to be at least one person in the comments section that says she had it coming. I can’t change that person’s mind because that is a person who is going to be herding the rest of us onto the boxcars.

What you see here, both in level of offense and the outrageous, meth-and-steroids response is very, very familiar:

This being the time and place that it is, race and ethnicity are always hot points:

I’m much less inclined to think that race has as much to do with this as a power-drunk officer out to establish their ability to tell you how to behave. But an uneven enforcement, one that fluxes between being subdued and handcuffed for improper wear of a face mask and being roundly ignored for not wearing one at all, lends itself to allegations of targeting by race, ethnicity, or any other hot button issue.

As I’ve noted, we’ve already seen a Texas county SWAT team sent to arrest patrons of a restaurant that was ‘illegally’ open

It is just a matter of time before this police state nonsense gets people killed.

I really hope police unions are taking note of this nonsense and beginning to see the long term damage this is going to do to relationships between police officers and the communities they are supposed to serve. I’m already at the point where I would not consider donating to a police oriented charity.

While there are officers out there like former Seattle Port Authority Officer Greg Anderson who understand what is happening, all too many are willing to waddle from a surplus MRAP and bust patrons at a restaurant.

This blind allegiance to a paycheck and personal power by men with guns and the ability to kill you with impunity is a clear and present danger to our republican system of government. If every police agency considers every order that it is given to be constitutional and enforces even pointless rules and a brutal and mindless manner, they will have effectively stopped being a police force with a mission of keeping communities safe and will have become an occupying army with a mission of supporting their gauleiter.
