Attorney General William Barr and the Trump administration have delivered a stunning blow to three U.S. cities enabling lawlessness – labeling New York City, Portland, and Seattle as “anarchist jurisdictions.”
The three Democrat run cities are being targeted specifically over their failure to stop violent rioters from terrorizing the city, paired with their idiotic decision to defund their police departments.
“When state and local leaders impede their own law-enforcement officers and agencies from doing their jobs, it endangers innocent citizens who deserve to be protected, including those who are trying to peacefully assemble and protest,” Barr said in a statement.
“We cannot allow federal tax dollars to be wasted when the safety of the citizenry hangs in the balance. It is my hope that the cities identified by the Department of Justice today will reverse course and become serious about performing the basic function of government and start protecting their own citizens.”

White House budget director Russ Vought is set to issue guidance to federal agencies on withdrawing funds from the cities in less than two weeks.
The list of cities eligible for defunding will be updated periodically according to the DOJ.
The president warned that a move like this would be coming earlier this month as his administration fights to restore law and order to American cities, even the ones long ruled and nearly destroyed by Democrats and their policies.
“My Administration will do everything in its power to prevent weak mayors and lawless cities from taking Federal dollars while they let anarchists harm people, burn buildings, and ruin lives and businesses,” Trump tweeted on September 2. “We’re putting them on notice today.”
The tweet came alongside a Trump memo which instructed Vought to issue guidance within 30 days “to the heads of agencies on restricting eligibility of or otherwise disfavoring, to the maximum extent permitted by law, anarchist jurisdictions in the receipt of Federal grants.”
“My Administration will not allow Federal tax dollars to fund cities that allow themselves to deteriorate into lawless zones,” the memo stated. “To ensure that Federal funds are neither unduly wasted nor spent in a manner that directly violates our Government’s promise to protect life, liberty, and property, it is imperative that the Federal Government review the use of Federal funds by jurisdictions that permit anarchy, violence, and destruction in America’s cities.”
The Democrat cities targeted by Trump and the DOJ have all seen a disturbing uptick in violence with the death of George Floyd being the catalyst.
While the President has offered to send in federal law enforcement to help get things under control, Democratic leadership in these areas have refused – opting instead to attack and threaten the president while allowing violent crime to destroy their cities.
When New York Democrat Governor Andrew Cuomo initially was notified that NYC was a potential target, he responded by issuing a number of serious threats to the president.
“He better have an army if he thinks he’s gonna walk down the street in New York,” Cuomo said. “New Yorkers don’t want to have anything to do with him.”
While it’s not yet clear exactly the severity of the cuts to federal funding, NYC is of the most vulnerable cities given that it receives approximately $7 billion in annual aid from the federal government.
