Social media giants Facebook and Twitter engaged in full-on election interference on Wednesday in a desperate attempt to coverup an explosive story that came out about Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden.
After The New York Post published a story that quickly went viral, Facebook and Twitter both frantically scrambled to run interference for Biden and the Democrats on this story that could easily ruin their chances of winning the election.
The story by The Post revealed that Joe Biden met with a top Burisma executive months before using his influence to get a Ukrainian prosecutor fired for looking into the energy company which employed his son.
Facebook intentionally limited the distribution of the story while Twitter labeled links to the story “unsafe,” and even locked accounts of people sharing the story.
Facebook spokesman and former Democrat staffer Andy Stone announced on Twitter, “While I will intentionally not link to the New York Post, I want be clear that this story is eligible to be fact checked by Facebook’s third-party fact checking partners. In the meantime, we are reducing its distribution on our platform,”
He continued claiming, “This is part of our standard process to reduce the spread of misinformation. We temporarily reduce distribution pending fact-checker review.”
Twitter would not allow new links to the article to be posted – even by employees of the newspaper.
“This is a Big Tech information coup,” said the New York Post’s op-eds editor, Sohrab Ahmari. “This is digital civil war.”
“I, an editor at the New York Post, one of the nation’s largest papers by circulation, can’t post one of our own stories that details corruption by a major-party presidential candidate, Joe Biden.”
A Twitter spokesman said the link was being banned across the platform “in line with our Hacked Materials Policy as well as our approach to blocking URLs.”
Twitter also claimed the article lacked “authoritative information,” but did not explain this position further.
Twitter even went as far as locking the personal account of White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany on Wednesday after she shared a link to the story.
McEnany spoke out against Twitter’s censorship, saying that the left-leaning platform essentially “held her at gunpoint” until she deletes a link to the Post’s story.
“It’s not a temporary blockage,” McEnany said. “When I log on to my Twitter account, it says I’m permanently banned. They essentially have me at gunpoint and said unless you delete this story, a news story by the New York Post, I cannot regain access to my account.”
“This was a news story with emails, pictures of the emails … even the Biden campaign does not dispute the authenticity of the emails,” McEnany said of the report. “Meanwhile … the ayatollah of Iran [is] tweeting ‘death to Israel’. This is permitted on Twitter, but an email that is reported … by the New York Post, a credible outlet, you are not allowed share that information.”
“This is not the American way,” McEnany added. ” This is not how a freedom-loving democracy operates. We have to have to hold Twitter accountable, and Facebook too, who is banning the transmission of this story simply because ideologically it hurts the side of the aisle that Silicon Valley prefers. It’s sad, it’s censorship, [and] this is not America.”
“And,” she concluded, “make no mistake, if they can ban the press secretary of the United States for President Trump, they can ban you, as a citizen, and that is pathetic.”
The obvious censorship was met by legal threats from Republican lawmakers including Sen. Josh Hawley who said, “So Facebook is going to actively censor a [New York Post] investigative story on the Democrat candidate for president. But rest assured, Facebook is a neutral platform with no political viewpoints!”
“I want to know on what grounds you are actively censoring a news report about potentially illegal corruption by the Democrat candidate for president,” said Hawley in a follow-up tweet. “If you have evidence this is ‘disinformation,’ disclose it immediately.”
“Expect a formal inquiry from my office.”
In a tweet posted to the Trump War Room twitter account, the Trump campaign accused Facebook of election interference.
“This is a Facebook employee. Facebook is actively interfering in the election. Facebook is rigging the election for Joe Biden.”
“This is straight-up election interference by Facebook, being announced by their comms person who touts in his bio numerous past jobs with Dems,” said Donald Trump Jr. “Big Tech is openly trying to rig this election for Biden & should be held accountable immediately.”
