Sen. Lindsey Graham suggested he would investigate House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s handling of security of the Capitol building after rioters stormed it on Jan. 6.

“I understand what happened on January the 6th was one of the low points in my time in office,” the South Carolina Republican said on Sunday Morning Futures. “It was horrendous to see people … take over the Capitol, the House, and the Senate, beat officers, defile the seat of government. How in the hell could that happen? Where was Nancy Pelosi? It’s her job to provide Capitol security. We will get to the bottom of that.”

The sergeant at arms of the House is under the direction of Pelosi and is responsible for securing the Capitol along with the Capitol Police.

Graham’s comments sparked the ire of Pelosi’s deputy chief of staff, Drew Hammill, who slammed the senator for attempting to “shift blame.”

“This disgraceful attempt to shift blame for the mob attack on the Capitol is absurd & pathetic. He need only look in the mirror if he wants to start pointing a finger. He has repeatedly cast doubts on results of a fair election & dangerously fanned flames of rightwing quackery,” Hammill tweeted.

The siege of the Capitol left five people dead, including one woman who was shot by law enforcement. The riot also prompted three Capitol security officials to resign: Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund, House Sergeant at Arms Paul D. Irving, and Senate Sergeant at Arms Michael C. Stenger.

President Trump was also impeached by the House for a second time after the siege on charges of inciting an insurrection.
