The radical House Democrats passed sweeping gun control legislation on Thursday.
H.R. 8 expands the legal requirement for FBI background checks beyond retail sales into private sales of firearms. In other words, you would become a criminal for selling a family member your gun without them getting an FBI background check first.
The measure passed unanimously with the Democrats. Surprisignly, there were some Republicans who got on board as well.
The eight Republicans were:
- Vern Buchanan
- Brian Fitzpatrick
- Maria Salazar
- Andrew Garbarino
- Chris Smith
- Fred Upton
- Carlos Gimenez
- Adam Kinzinger
Republican Reps. Fitzpatrick, Upton, and Smith not only voted for the bill, but they’re cosponsors on it.
H.R. 8 passed in the House by vote of 227-203
Many Republicans warned against the bill, saying universal background checks is a slippery slope toward national gun registry.
