Actor Brad Pitt made a political statement at the Oscars on Sunday about President Donald Trump’s Senate impeachment trial and was subsequently mocked online by critics.

Pitt, who won Best Supporting Actor for “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” said during his acceptance speech, “They told me I only have 45 seconds up here, which is 45 seconds more than the Senate gave John Bolton this week.”

Referencing the director of the movie, Quentin Tarantino, Pitt continued, “I’m thinking maybe Quentin does a movie about it and in the end the adults do the right thing.”

Following his acceptance speech, Pitt was confronted about it by a reporter who said, “Some unkind souls have suggested that you had a writer throughout the speeches this award season, say it ain’t so.”

“Well, no, I’ve actually, historically I’ve always been really tentative about speeches, like, they make me nervous,” Pitt responded. “So, this round I figured if we’re going to do this, like, put, like, some real work into it and try to get comfortable and, and this is a result of that. Um, no I definitely right them, I have some funny friends, I have some very, very funny friends that help me with some laughs but, but no it’s got to come from the heart.”

Another reporter asked, “Tonight, you did have your political reference, what kind of prompted you to go that way?

Pitt responded, “I was really disappointed with this week and I think when gamesmanship trumps doing the right thing, it’s a sad day and I don’t think we should let it slide and I’m very serious about that.”

Critics quickly responded to Pitt’s remarks online, noting his apparent lack of knowledge about the impeachment process and what happened.

British news personality Piers Morgan said, “Took 10 seconds for the first winner (Brad Pitt) to bash President Trump. Only surprised it took that long. As always, this will help Trump not hurt him.”

Fox News host Greg Gutfeld said, “I have to hand it to Brad Pitt for coming up with that brave political statement extemporaneously, without any help from various speech-writing agencies that his people definitely did not contact.”

Media personality Larry Elder responded, “Brad Pitt, winner of Best Supporting Actor … made a crack about John Bolton not testifying before the Senate during the Trump impeachment trial. Apparently, Pitt is unaware that Bolton has REFUSED to testify without a subpoena.”

Actress Alana Stewart added, “The first acceptance speech has to have a political jab? Can’t we just have one award ceremony without offending half the viewers? Newsflash, Hollywood, most people don’t care about your political views.”

Fox News contributor Tomi Lahren tweeted, “Brad Pitt, ‘They told me I only have 45 seconds up here, which is 45 seconds more than the Senate gave John Bolton this week.’ Look, TDS and @realDonaldTrump have now made the Left cozy up to John Bolton. Their illness knows no bounds!”

Media personality Dana Loesch mocked Pitt, writing, “Maybe in Quentin’s movie he’ll explore why House Dems didn’t call more relevant witnesses during their investigation.”

President Donald Trump slammed far-left climate activists on Tuesday while speaking at the Davos World Economic Forum where he called on the world to ignore their extreme apocalyptic predictions.

“This is not a time for pessimism; this is a time for optimism,” Trump said. “Fear and doubt is not a good thought process because this is a time for tremendous hope and joy and optimism and action.”

“But to embrace the possibilities of tomorrow, we must reject the perennial prophets of doom and their predictions of the apocalypse,” Trump continued. “They are the heirs of yesterday’s foolish fortune-tellers — and I have them and you have them, and we all have them, and they want to see us do badly, but we don’t let that happen. They predicted an overpopulation crisis in the 1960s, mass starvation in the ’70s, and an end of oil in the 1990s. These alarmists always demand the same thing: absolute power to dominate, transform, and control every aspect of our lives.”

“We will never let radical socialists destroy our economy, wreck our country, or eradicate our liberty. America will always be the proud, strong, and unyielding bastion of freedom,” Trump concluded in his remarks going after left-wing activists. “In America, we understand what the pessimists refuse to see: that a growing and vibrant market economy focused on the future lifts the human spirit and excites creativity strong enough to overcome any challenge — any challenge by far.”

WATCH:

To protect our security and our economy, we are also boldly embracing American energy independence. The United States is now, by far, the number-one producer of oil and natural gas anywhere in the world, by far. It’s not even close.

While many European countries struggle with crippling energy costs, the American energy revolution is saving American families $2,500 every year in lowering electric bills and numbers that people said couldn’t happen, and also, very importantly, prices at the pump.

We’ve been so successful that the United States no longer needs to import energy from hostile nations. With an abundance of American natural gas now available, our European allies no longer have to be vulnerable to unfriendly energy suppliers either. We urge our friends in Europe to use America’s vast supply and achieve true energy security.

With U.S. companies and researchers leading the way, we are on the threshold of virtually unlimited reserves of energy, including from traditional fuels, LNG, clean coal, next-generation nuclear power, and gas hydrate technologies.

At the same time, I’m proud to report the United States has among the cleanest air and drinking water on Earth — and we’re going to keep it that way. And we just came out with a report that, at this moment, it’s the cleanest it’s been in the last 40 years. We’re committed to conserving the majesty of God’s creation and the natural beauty of our world.

Today, I’m pleased to announce the United States will join One Trillion Trees Initiative being launched here at the World Economic Forum. One Trillion Trees. (Applause.) And in doing so, we will continue to show strong leadership in restoring, growing, and better managing our trees and our forests.

This is not a time for pessimism; this is a time for optimism. Fear and doubt is not a good thought process because this is a time for tremendous hope and joy and optimism and action.

But to embrace the possibilities of tomorrow, we must reject the perennial prophets of doom and their predictions of the apocalypse. They are the heirs of yesterday’s foolish fortune-tellers — and I have them and you have them, and we all have them, and they want to see us do badly, but we don’t let that happen. They predicted an overpopulation crisis in the 1960s, mass starvation in the ’70s, and an end of oil in the 1990s. These alarmists always demand the same thing: absolute power to dominate, transform, and control every aspect of our lives.

We will never let radical socialists destroy our economy, wreck our country, or eradicate our liberty. America will always be the proud, strong, and unyielding bastion of freedom.

In America, we understand what the pessimists refuse to see: that a growing and vibrant market economy focused on the future lifts the human spirit and excites creativity strong enough to overcome any challenge — any challenge by far.

The great scientific breakthroughs of the 20th century — from penicillin, to high-yield wheat, to modern transportation, and breakthrough vaccines — have lifted living standards and saved billions of lives around the world. And we’re continuing to work on things that you’ll be hearing about in the near future that, even today, sitting here right now, you wouldn’t believe it’s possible that we have found the answers. You’ll be hearing about it. But we have found answers to things that people said would not be possible — certainly not in a very short period of time.

But the wonders of the last century will pale in comparison to what today’s young innovators will achieve because they are doing things that nobody thought even feasible to begin. We continue to embrace technology, not to shun it. When people are free to innovate, millions will live longer, happier, healthier lives.

For three years now, America has shown the world that the path to a prosperous future begins with putting workers first, choosing growth, and freeing entrepreneurs to bring their dreams to life.

For anyone who doubts what is possible in the future, we need only look at the towering achievements of the past. Only a few hundred miles from here are some of the great cities of Europe — teeming centers of commerce and culture. Each of them is full of reminders of what human drive and imagination can achieve.

Centuries ago, at the time of the Renaissance, skilled craftsmen and laborers looked upwards and built the structures that still touch the human heart. To this day, some of the greatest structures in the world have been built hundreds of years ago.

In Italy, the citizens once started construction on what would be a 140-year project, the Duomo of Florence. An incredible, incredible place. While the technology did not yet exist to complete their design, city fathers forged ahead anyway, certain that they would figure it out someday. These citizens of Florence did not accept limits to their high aspirations and so the Great Dome was finally built.

In France, another century-long project continues to hold such a grip on our hearts and our souls that, even 800 years after its construction, when the Cathedral of Notre Dame was engulfed in flames last year — such a sad sight to watch; unbelievable site, especially for those of us that considered it one of the great, great monuments and representing so many different things — the whole world grieved.

Though her sanctuary now stands scorched and charred — and a sight that’s hard to believe; when you got used to it, to look at it now, hard to believe. But we know that Notre Dame will be restored — will be restored magnificently. The great bells will once again ring out for all to hear, giving glory to God and filling millions with wonder and awe.

The Cathedrals of Europe teach us to pursue big dreams, daring adventures, and unbridled ambitions. They urge us to consider not only what we build today, but what we will endure long after we are gone. They testify to the power of ordinary people to realize extraordinary achievements when united by a grand and noble purpose.

So, together, we must go forward with confidence, determination, and vision. We must not be timid, or meek, or fearful — but instead we must boldly seize the day and embrace the moment. We have so many great leaders in this room — not only business leaders, but leaders of nations — and some are doing such a fantastic job. We work together very closely. We will draw strength from the glories of the past, and we will make greatness our common mission for the future.

Together, we will make our nations stronger, our countries safer, our culture richer, our people freer, and the world more beautiful than ever before.

Above all else, we will forever be loyal to our workers, our citizens, and our families — the men and women who are the backbone of our economies, the heart of our communities, and the soul of our countries. Let us bring light to their lives one by one and empower them to light up the world.

Thank you very much. God bless you. God bless your countries. And God bless America. Thank you. Thank you very much.

Dr. Peter Navarro, Director of the Office of Trade and Manufacturing Policy (OTMP), made bold predictions for the stock market and the U.S. economy in 2020 this week, saying that both are poised to have big years due to the Trump administration’s policies.

On Tuesday, Navarro told CNBC’s “Squawk Box” that he predicts “at least 32,000 on the Dow” in 2020.

Speaking Thursday on Fox News, Navarro made further predictions for the U.S. economy, saying that a number of factors that are coming together are going to make for a strong U.S. economy in 2020.

“Hey, my forecast streak is on the line here. the day after the election, i said $25,000 on the Dow, everybody said I was crazy,” Navarro said. “July, I said 30,000 on the Dow if we got USMCA passes and interest rates down. 330 points today, we are getting closer to that.”

“I am bullish and the reason why I’m bullish is because of the underlying strength of the GDP growth engine. It’s one of the four things that drive this economy: consumption, investment, government spending, and exports,” Navarro said. “Every one of those under President Donald J Trump is hitting on all cylinders. You know, the consumer low unemployment, rising wages, high optimism, that’s going to be the anchor of 2020, but we also have five trade deals that are going to kick in and force in 2020 with Japan, South Korea, Canada, Mexico, and China. Score that for exports.”

WATCH:

“Here’s my sleeper, there wasn’t enough attention paid to passage the appropriations bill and National Defense Authorization Act a couple weeks ago, that is a built-in beautiful fiscal floor for growth in 2020,” Navarro continued. “And of course, investment which lacked a bit in 2019, it’s coming in the greatest economy in the world right now and the trade policy encourages it to come here because people know they want production here and if we don’t get it they get tariffs.”

Navarro later weighed in on “smart money” saying that increased government spending was a “ticking time bomb,” saying, “Until you see the bond market tell you it’s a ticking bomb, it ain’t a ticking time bomb. It’s basically putting in a beautiful fiscal floor to grow. And, you know, as the director of the Office of Trade and Manufacturing Policy, I’m particularly heartened by the nature of those expenditures because we got a really solid defense budget now. And, you know, I go around the country, places like the Philly Shipyard or the combat vehicle plants in, like, Lima, Ohio or York, Pennsylvania, the shipbuilding up in Marinette, Wisconsin, these are the places where line item by line item in the defense budget, the blue wall states. The Midwest is absolutely booming.”

Navarro later predicted that American businesses are going to “unleash” in their spending in 2020.

“I think they’re going to unleash. I think what turned things around, Charles, was that jobs report, that blow-out jobs report, which basically finished off any doubt that we were going to have a good 2020,” Navarro said. “And again, you know, the smart money is going to look at what I told you about with that government spending with the appropriations bill.”

Jon Voight has a message for the American people — “Donald Trump is the greatest president since Abraham Lincoln.”

The Academy Award-winning actor and star of Showtime’s “Ray Donovan” posted his message as a video on Twitter Friday night. In it, Voight urges Americans not to be “fooled by the political left.” America, he states, is “witnessing triumph” and is “stronger, safer, and with more jobs because our president has made his every move correct.”

This is not the first time Voight has released a message to the American people from his Twitter account. In April, he offered a brief address on Twitter in support of Fox News host Laura Ingraham, who he says “we need very much at this time when our president is being attacked with lies and slanders from the media.”

Voight was an early and outspoken supporter of candidate Donald Trump and has been one of the president’s most ardent defenders in Hollywood. He spoke several times at various events during Mr. Trump’s inauguration, including during the inauguration concert, during which he declared, “God answered our prayers.”

Voight, one of the few outspoken conservative voices in Hollywood, is currently working alongside Dennis Quaid on a drama on Ronald Reagan, which follows the actor-turned-president from “his childhood to his time in the oval office.” Voight also recently played Justice Warren E. Burger in the film “Roe v. Wade” (in post-production), which tells the story of the “national battle in this untold conspiracy that led to the most famous and controversial court case in history.”

Along with his roles in several television series over his decades-long career, Voight has starred in major films from a wide range of genres, including “Catch-22” (1970), “Deliverance” (1972), “Heat” (1995), “Mission Impossible” (1996), “Transformers” (2007) and “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” (2016). Voight was nominated for Academy Awards for best actor in a leading role for “Midnight Cowboy” (1969) and “Runaway Train” (1985) and best actor in a supporting role for “Ali” (2001). In 1979, he won the Oscar for best actor in a leading role for “Coming Home” (1978). He’s also won several Golden Globes, including two for his role as Mickey Donovan.
