A new study from conservative media watchdog MRC NewsBusters released Tuesday claims media coverage is overwhelmingly negative when reporting about President Donald Trump but positive about his Democratic presidential challenger, Joe Biden.

The group assessed how the three major networks of ABC, CBS and NBC covered both Trump and Biden on evening newscasts from July 29 – Oct. 20, 2020, and found 92% negative coverage for the president and 66% positive for the former vice president.

The media watchdog determined that the networks devoted 839 minutes to discussing the president’s activities, compared to only 269 minutes for Biden — over three times as much.

The study did not mention, however, that during this period the Biden campaign was often low-key, retiring early in the day or operating from the candidate’s basement. (RELATED: Report: Biden Has Had 50% Fewer Media Questions Than Trump Since Aug. 31)

MRC found that the networks were ten times more likely to make “evaluative statements” about Trump than Biden — with 822 of these (92.4%) being negative and only 68 (7.6%) positive. These statements did not include those assessing who was ahead in the presidential contest or comments from sources supporting the candidates.

Conversely, the study indicated that media reports included 91 evaluative statements about Biden, 60 of which were deemed positive and the remaining 31% deemed negative, adding up to a 66% positive rating.

MRC also argued that the media was selective in what issues it chose to discuss, preferring to focus extensively on the coronavirus pandemic, Trump’s own infection, the president’s opposition to mail-in voting and the unrest in American cities.

There was also considerable attention paid to the New York Times story regarding Trump’s alleged tax returns and an Atlantic report that accused the president of smearing war dead as “suckers” and “losers” that Trump quickly denied was true.

MRC stated that network media almost completely ignored Biden’s advanced age and health as an election issue (only 10 minutes, 33 seconds of coverage) while they extensively focused on Trump’s health when he was diagnosed with the coronavirus, with 140 minutes of coverage.

The story of how a laptop allegedly owned by Hunter Biden contained emails linking Joe Biden to a clandestine meeting with a Ukrainian natural gas official and potential influence peddling garnered only 5 minutes and 19 seconds of coverage — exclusively on CBS News.

Even those reports tended to defend the Bidens, MRC said, citing a story by CBS reporter Nancy Cordes who, on Oct. 15, characterized the story as “having all the hallmarks of information laundering.”

MRC described its methodology as tabulating every reference to Trump and Biden during the period covered on ABC’s “World News Tonight,“ the “CBS Evening News” and “NBC Nightly News.” In assessing whether bias was present, the group tabulated every “evaluative statement” made by a reporter, anchor or objective news source to reach their totals.

Actress Kirstie Alley said Monday that those on the left personally insult her for supporting President Donald Trump’s reelection.

“They always attack the same three things,” the former “Cheers” star told Fox News’ “Hannity.” “I’m a fat, irrelevant scientologist. So, but you know this has been going on for 40 years, so I’m sort of prepared.”

“That really is basically all they have to offer, so I honestly don’t take it too personally, because I feel that people are angry and they have the right to say what they want to say and I have the right to block them if I don’t like the way they speak,” she continued.

Alley tweeted last week that she supports Trump “because he’s NOT a politician. I voted for him 4 years ago for this reason and shall vote for him again for this reason. He gets things done quickly and he will turn the economy around quickly.”

Alley received a deluge of angry emails protesting that contention, including one alleging Trump is only efficient at stoking racism and “leaving hundreds of thousands dead.”

Alley said Monday that she has been “talking about Trump for several months” but that her recent tweet generated a lot of pushback on social media. She also endorsed Trump during the 2016 presidential election.

She says she supports Trump because he is not a “career politician.”

“We have a history in this country of people, not as much currently, but of people of different occupations like farmers and tailors and oilmen and businessmen and generals coming in and servicing our country as the president of the United States and even many of them when they left, they went back to their other job.”

Alley said she likes Trump because he “has a lot of energy … he has more energy than any human being I’ve actually ever seen and I think that the big thing that I was mentioning in that tweet was that I’m really tired of career politicians,” she said.

Host Sean Hannity congratulated Alley for being “against socialism” but also because she “took on Joe Biden” for an uneven record on race relations — one that includes calling segregation a source of “black pride.”

Alley referred to Biden’s comments in May to a black radio host, suggesting “you ain’t black” if voters don’t support him for president and reject Trump.

The actress said Biden makes “constant gaffes that have these actual racist overtones” and that it is clearly not something that he does “accidentally.”

Biden regretted making the remark, saying, “I shouldn’t have been “such a wise guy.”

Democratic Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said Saturday that President Donald Trump’s rhetoric at rallies is putting her, her “family, and other government officials’ lives in danger” and that it “needs to stop.”

Whitmer was referring to a Trump rally Saturday in Muskegon, Michigan, where Trump criticized the Michigan governor’s coronavirus lockdowns and the crowd erupted in chants of “lock her up.”

“You’ve got to get your governor to open up your state. Okay? And get your schools open. Get your schools open. The schools have to be open, right?” Trump asked as the crowd shouted, “Lock her up.”

“Lock them all up,” Trump responded as he encouraged media outlets covering the rally to point their cameras in the crowd’s direction. “Look where that goes, all the way over to there … You can show: turn the cameras. They never like turning the cameras. They never like to show the kind of crowds,” he continued, noting that the media was not responding.

“That’s a lot of people. That’s a lot of people. Go ahead, turn your camera, go ahead, turn it. They hate to do it. They hate to show the crowds.”

Earlier this month, federal authorities charging six people — allegedly involved with a state militia group — who were planning to kidnap Gov. Whitmer.

Trump suggested that Whitmer was an ingrate for not thanking his administration for foiling the plot against the governor, who instead called the president a “white supremacist.”

The Michigan Supreme Court ruled earlier this month that Whitmer’s emergency declarations were unconstitutional and should be immediately vacated.

Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden has reportedly answered less than half as many media questions as President Donald Trump has since Aug. 31.

While Biden has fielded 365 questions during his public appearances and virtual interviews, Trump has answered 753 queries during that period, according to Axios.

Biden’s activity has included 35 local TV news conferences, three interviews for the national news and two town hall appearances, according to Axios.

Biden spent much of the campaign in the basement of his Delaware home, when he occasionally did virtual events.

That’s seemingly where some Democratic strategists wanted him.

Former Democratic Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe said in June, “People say all the time, ‘Oh, we got to get the vice president out of the basement,’” he told fellow Democrats. “He’s fine in the basement. Two people see him a day — his two body people. That’s it. Let Trump keep doing what Trump’s doing.”

Biden has also frequently ended his campaign day early or decided not to campaign at all. He started October by taking off the day and put a lid on his campaign 11 times in September. The former vice president has said his campaign is emphasizing safety and social distancing during the coronavirus pandemic.

Biden continues to dominate the presidential polls, leading Trump by over 10 points nationwide and 7.3 points in the battleground state of Pennsylvania, according to FiveThirtyEight.

Trump is also trailing the Democratic nominee in an Investor’s Business Daily survey released Monday that indicated 51.9% of likely voter support for Biden and 43.4% for Trump. The remainder of respondents said they would be supporting a third-party candidate.

CNN host Chris Cuomo said Monday that it’s not always necessary to fact check Democratic politicians because “they are not lying the way [President Donald] Trump does.”

Cuomo was discussing the Republican National Convention with colleague Don Lemon when he suggested Trump and the GOP speakers were offering little but falsehoods.

“Everything that’s bad is your fault,” Cuomo said in reference to alleged Republican finger-pointing. “Everything that’s not going well on my watch, you are either lying about or you’re engineering, somehow, on the sneaky side,” Cuomo said on CNN’s “Cuomo Prime Time.” (RELATED: Eric Metaxas, Chris Cuomo Clash Over Christian Support For Trump)

“And again, well, who are people going to believe? We’ll see who makes the better case. And yeah, you can fact check it to death. We could fact check this convention all night. People were saying you didn’t fact check the Democrats. They are not lying the way Trump does.”

CNN fact checker Daniel Dale has previously said that there is “no equivalence” between Democrats and Trump when it comes to lying.

Although both hosts agreed that both parties “engage” in lying, Cuomo noted of the president: “Nobody lies the way this man does, has, and will, that I’ve ever seen in politics. So he’s lying to you.”

Although Cuomo found Republican South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott’s “personal story compelling,” he said was “very careful about what he didn’t mention” and suggested the senator had not supported Trump in 2016.

Cuomo suggested few politicians had ever been so viscerally attacked by others in their own party the way that Trump has.

“This guy is a lying demon, who is going to Hell: that’s what [Republican South Carolina Sen.] Lindsey Graham called him. You know, [Republican Texas Sen.] Ted Cruz called him a pathological liar and a person of no morality. You know, these people knew who Trump was. And now, they’re pretending it’s okay. It’s a tough sell.”

Lemon said that “Graham called him racist and a lot more things,” adding that “a lot of other people” had been severe critics of Trump as a presidential candidate and “who are now his best friend.”

Cuomo has previously called Trump an “autocrat” in conversation with Republican New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu, although the CNN host described the president’s 2020 State of the Union address as something that “celebrated what the country is about.”

Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden stumbled over his words during a Saturday speech in Kansas City, Missouri, resulting in a video clip by White House social media director Dan Scavino that made Biden appear to endorse the reelection of President Donald Trump.

After the video posted on Twitter, it was pointed out that it had been deceptivley edited to leave out Biden’s full comment and that the notion that Biden endorsed Trump’s reelection was false given the full context of his statement.

The former vice president, who has regained his frontrunner status after his victories last week in the Super Tuesday primaries, first suggested that negative campaigning would hurt the Democrats’ chances of regaining the White House in November before stumbling over his words.

“Turn this primary from a campaign that’s about negative attacks into one about what we’re for,” Biden said in the clip posted by Scavino. “Because we cannot reelect, we cannot win this reelection. Excuse me, we can only reelect Donald Trump … ”

Scavino only provided that section of Biden’s speech in his tweet, suggesting that Biden was endorsing the president’s reelection.

Though the tweet proved extremely popular, it has been criticized for being deceptive and inaccurate. A CNN story reported that Scavino cut off the candidate mid-sentence in the video.

“Excuse me. We can only reelect Donald Trump if in fact we get engaged in this circular firing squad here. It’s gotta be a positive campaign,” Biden said after the initial statement provided by Scavino. Biden has suggested it is time for he and rival Independent Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders to cease “negative attacks.”

Biden has frequently made gaffes on the campaign trail. On Super Tuesday he mistook his wife for his sister. In February, while speaking to supporters in Charleston, South Carolina, the candidate described himself as running for “the United States Senate.” Biden began his career in federal politics as a senator from Delaware.

Hillary Clinton is running from Democratic Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard’s $50 million defamation lawsuit, refusing to have a lawsuit delivered, Gabbard’s lawyer said Wednesday.

Clinton or her aides have refused to accept legal documents from the congresswoman, Brian Dunne told the New York Post.

The Democratic presidential candidate, who voted “present” on President Donald Trump’s impeachment, is suing former Secretary of State Clinton for defamation because Clinton has insinuated Gabbard is a Russian “asset.”

Gabbard was outraged when Clinton suggested in a podcast that the congresswoman was “a favorite of the Russians” and was being “groomed” as a third party candidate. The candidate responded calling Clinton “the queen of the warmongers, embodiment of corruption, and personification of the rot that has sickened the Democratic Party …” (RELATED: ‘I Stand Against Everything She Represents”: Tulsi Gabbard Deconstructs Hillary Clinton In ‘Tucker Carlson Tonight’ Interview)

Dunne said Secret Service agents answered the door of Clinton’s Chappaqua, N.Y. home and told the document server to go serve the papers to Clinton’s lawyer, David Kendall, who works in Washington. But, according to the Post, Kendall wouldn’t accept them either.

“I find it rather unbelievable that Hillary Clinton is so intimidated by Tulsi Gabbard that she won’t accept service of process,” Dunne told the Post. “But I guess here we are.”

Although Clinton has never specifically referred to Gabbard as working for the Russians, Clinton spokesman Nick Merrill responded with “If the nesting doll fits … ” when asked if the 2016 failed Democratic candidate was talking about the congresswoman. Nesting dolls are popular Russian folk art souvenirs. (RELATED: Hillary Clinton Calls It Quits On Upcoming Event Where Tulsi Gabbard Is Speaking)

After the former first lady made the comments, Gabbard, a U.S. Army veteran, suggested “From the day I announced my candidacy, there has been a concerted campaign to destroy my reputation. We wondered who was behind it and why. Now we know — it was always you, through your proxies and powerful allies in the corporate media and war machine, afraid of the threat I pose … ”

“We subpoenaed many of these witnesses and because of the president’s obstruction, they ignore those lawful subpoenas,” Schiff told ABC News’ “This Week with George Stephanopoulos.” “If you argue that, well, the House needed to go through endless months or even years of litigation before bringing about an impeachment, you effectively nullify the impeachment clause.”

Schiff, the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee that was largely responsible for impeaching the president, was also named as an impeachment manager last week by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

He raised the issue of enforcing subpoenas when told that Democrats have not been able to shake lose any Republican senators who might vote against party lines or are even willing to introduce witnesses to the Senate impeachment trial. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has stated that he has the votes to proceed with a trial on his own terms.

“The reality is, because what the president is threatening to do is cheat in the next election, you cannot wait months and years to be able to remove that threat from office,” Schiff said, even though for the past month Pelosi was not indicating any urgency in delivering the articles of impeachment to the Senate. McConnell has said that Pelsoi’s “one-woman blockade” of the impeachment process “produced absolutely nothing.”

Schiff complained about not seeing McConnell’s resolution for the trial timetable and claimed no one else has “except I suppose the White House lawyers.”

Although Republican critics slammed Schiff for leading an impeachment inquiry that was unfair to the president, the congressman told “This Week” that when the impeachment trial begins on Tuesday, “We’ll be fighting for a fair trial. As I mentioned before, that is really the foundation on which this all rests. If the Senate … prevails and there are no witnesses, it will be the first impeachment trial that goes to conclusion without witnesses.”

Although the audience laughed and the remarks appeared innocuous, Biden’s words could be seen otherwise in a broader context.

Only on Sunday, at another campaign stop in New Hampshire, Biden was stopped in his tracks by a heckler who shouted, “Don’t touch kids, you pervert!”

After the initial shock, Biden broke into a smile and proclaimed, “All right, well you know, this is a democracy,” he said.

But the former Vice President has also made bizarre comments in the past about his engagement with children. In June 2017, he described kids rubbing the wet hair on his legs during the time he served as a pool lifeguard.

“I got a lot of — I got hairy legs that turn … blonde in the sun,” Biden said. “And the kids used to come up and reach in the pool and rub my leg down so it was straight and then watch the hair come back up again. They’d look at it.”

Biden entered his presidential campaign under the cloud of sexual misconduct allegations, including a complaint from former Democratic Nevada Assemblywoman Lucy Flores that Biden inappropriately kissed her and smelled her hair.

When asked about this incident and others, Biden told “The View,” “Look, I’m really sorry if what I did in talking to them and trying to console that in fact they took it a different way. It’s my responsibility to make sure that I bend over backwards to try to understand how not to do that.”

Democratic California Rep. Adam Schiff balked Sunday at reports that U.S. Attorney John Durham’s review of the Russian interference investigation is now a criminal probe.

The chairman of the House Intelligence Committee who has the lead on the impeachment inquiry, tried to suggest the probe was nothing more than an attempt by Attorney General William Barr to persecute President Donald Trump’s political enemies.

“You can assign good people to do an illegitimate investigation,” Schiff told ABC News’ “This Week with George Stephanopoulos,” as he suggested he won’t accept the results of such a probe.

“If these reports are correct and Bill Barr’s Justice Department is doing a criminal investigation of people who properly looked into Russian interference in our election … it means that Bill Barr on the president’s behalf is weaponizing the Justice Department to go after the president’s enemies,” Schiff said.

Although the congressman has repeatedly suggested without evidence that Trump had colluded with the Russians, the congressman suggested Sunday that if you “win an election you don’t seek to prosecute the losing side but this is what Bill Barr is seeking to do. He is demonstrating once again that he is merely a tool of the president, the president’s hand, not the representative of the American people.”

When reminded by the program host that Durham “is a very well-respected prosecutor,” Schiff argued that there needs to be a “public explanation for why this needs to be a criminal probe.”

The committee chairman also suggested that he won’t accept the results of Durham’s investigation because it occurred under the auspices of a Department of Justice under Barr.

“You can assign good people to do an illegitimate investigation. You can assign good people to investigate the president’s political rivals. It doesn’t mean that the investigation is any less tainted. This is tainted because of the motivation which is a political one to serve the president’s political interests.”

Reminded that he has “no evidence of that … whatsoever,” Schiff insisted “the evidence, I think, is pretty clear. The president has been calling … to investigate anyone who stood in his way and now what is Bill Barr doing, he’s doing an investigation of — a criminal investigation of some of the people responsible for this probe. So you can, I think, connect one dot to another.”
