Oregon Governor Kate Brown (D) tweeted on Tuesday that state residents needed to keep this year’s Thanksgiving holiday gatherings “small” and encouraged people to “uninvite” their family members. The messaging, which is in response to the rise in COVID-19 cases, is in stark contrast to the mass Black Lives Matter protests and riots that occurred this past summer.

“This is hard, but making difficult sacrifices now will save lives,” Brown tweeted.

Brown tweeted approvingly in late July of the ongoing mass gatherings outside the Mark O. Hatfield United States Courthouse in downtown Portland, which saw rioters continually attacking the federal property on a nightly basis.

There, instead of telling people to remain at home and avoid gathering in large groups, Brown had harsher words for the federal officers who were sent to reinforce the courthouse.

“The President’s plan to ‘dominate’ the streets of American cities has failed. And today, federal troops are preparing to leave downtown Portland. We will protect free speech and the right to protest peacefully…The massive and non-violent protests led by Black Lives Matter activists have inspired the nation,” she tweeted.

The next day, Brown continued to praise people gathering in large groups and voiced no concerns in the same tweet about how the protests were in violation of recommended COVID-19 guidelines.

The organizing groups behind the White House “siege” that is supposed to last until Election Day suffered a set back on the first day as they canceled the first event related to the protest.

Minutes before the “General Assembly” was supposed to convene in Lafayette Square at noon, Twitter accounts announced the meeting was canceled due to the groups receiving “MANY threats of death and violence from Trump supporters and white nationalists.”

NOTICE TO ALL PROTESTERS: After intensive talks and multiple considerations, we’ve decided to cancel the General Assembly scheduled for 12 noon in Lafayette Square. We received MANY threats of death and violence from Trump supporters and white nationalists. #Safety @Adbusters

— DC General Assembly (@DCAssemble) September 17, 2020

THE STATE OF OUR NATION: It is a dark day in the United States. Between the threat of violence from White Nationalists and Trump supporters, protesters have to face the threat of violence from police as well. This is NOT a free country. #Shame @Adbusters @OccupyWallStNYC

— DC General Assembly (@DCAssemble) September 17, 2020

THE THREAT OF VIOLENCE: Its very real for protesters in Trump’s America, the hypocrisy of his position leaves worlds to be desired. Good people are harassed and intimidated by thugs who care NOTHING for democracy or truth. #Shame #Fascism #WhiteNationalism @realDonaldTrump

— DC General Assembly (@DCAssemble) September 17, 2020

Despite the setback, it appears the organizers still plan on conducting some form of protests, but it appears to be heavily scaled back from what was being originally advertised.

We are still organizing to occupy and feed the homeless of Washington DC this evening. Currently in Lafayette Square standing with core group of peaceful warriors. Could use help feeding as many people as we can. $reoccupy on CashApp. #FoodNotHate #Service @Adbusters

The “siege” was being advertised as a spiritual successor to the Occupy Wall Street protests in 2011:

“It’s time again for dramatic, decisive action. Which is why, on September 17th, in the original and enduring spirit of Occupy, we and tens of thousands of our fellow citizens will stream into Lafayette Square, in Washington. D.C.

“We will lay siege to the White House. And we will sustain it for exactly fifty days. This is the #WhiteHouseSiege.

“A siege only works if it is sustained. We witnessed this — the multiplying power of a strategic occupation — nine years ago. You dig in, hold your ground, and the tension accumulates, amplifies, goes global.”

Presumptive Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden’s event with Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA), his pick for vice president, was heavily delayed after the school they were using for the event in Wilmington, Delaware lost power on Wednesday.

NBC reporter Mike Memoli told MSNBC the campaign had to use backup generators.

“We understand from the pool reporter inside that there actually is a power outage in the area. You might even be able to hear the very noisy generator that kicked into action behind me,” he said. “I saw the lights flickering on and off a little bit. There have been severe storms in this area over the last week, especially in this particular area. I saw some trees uprooted actually into a neighbor’s house on the street where Biden lives. So power has been an issue here, as I know it has been in parts of New York.”

CNN noted how the building air conditioning went out as well.

President Trump’s reelection campaign took to Twitter to mock the Biden-Harris event’s poor start.

Chad Wolf, the acting secretary for the Department of Homeland Security, gave a “reality check” to the mainstream media after they blamed the federal officers for the violence in Portland after they were sent to protect the Mark O. Hatfield Courthouse from rioters.

In the weeks since Oregon State Police took over the security for the courthouse, rioters have moved on and began to once again attack different Portland Police Bureau buildings in the city.

In a tweet on Tuesday, Wolf posted screenshots of different articles that blamed federal officers for the riots and highlights how he PPB has had to declare riots and unlawful assemblies almost every day since the agreement between DHS and the Oregon state government.

The articles were published by The Washington Post, TIME, and the Associated Press.

On one night, black bloc rioters assaulted and harassed two elderly women who tried to stop them from attacking a PPB building.

Indeed, when I was on the ground in Portland prior to the agreement being made, I saw how the Federal Protective Service warned the rioters to stop their destructive criminal acts multiple times. When it became clear the rioters would not leave on their own, that’s when the federal officers had to come out to push people away from the fence and put out the fires that had been started.

CNN White House reporter Kaitlan Collins has long been reporting on who and who has not been wearing a mask in the Trump White House during the Wuhan coronavirus pandemic. Just with her tweets, Collins has been reporting about masks and has made it a point to ask about them.

Collins’s mask beat ran into a bump after she was caught on camera removing her own mask right after the White House press briefing on Friday had ended. The CDC recommends wearing a mask or face covering when you are unable to not be six feet away from people. This helps prevents COVID-19 from spreading to others, especially if you are an asymptomatic carrier.

Collins is clearly within six feet of other reporters after she takes off her mask and begins to walk away from the White House podium.

President Trump tweeted on Sunday that Collins is a “CNN Faker!”

In response, Collins pointed to the death toll from the coronavirus and how Trump is instead tweeting about her.

The State Department confirmed to staff members of the House Committee on Oversight and Reform during a briefing on April 15 that the state-run media in China, Russia, and Iran are working in together to blame the Wuhan coronavirus pandemic on the United States, according to an internal GOP Oversight and Reform Committee report.

In the report that was obtained by Townhall, it also laid out how the World Health Organization and China had been misleading on the severity of COVID-19 during the early stages of the pandemic, which originated out of the city of Wuhan, the capital of Central China’s Hubei province:

“According to a cybersecurity report, Chinese state-run media has attempted to shift the blame for the pandemic away from China and instead painted China as a global leader in the response to the pandemic. A spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry has openly blamed U.S. servicemembers for originating the virus in China. China further censored and detained any Chinese official, including doctors, who tried to warn of the true origins of the virus.

“The State Department has confirmed Chinese, Iranian, and Russian state-run media are all promoting similar messages in an effort to blame the U.S. for COVID-19. Further, China is attempting to use propaganda regarding its pandemic response to convince the world that socialism, communism, and authoritarianism are better than freedom, liberty, and representative government.”

The State Department said they are doing the following to push back against Chinese propaganda:

  • Using a global programmatic strategy to counter and expose propaganda by partnering with international organizations to reinforce U.S. messages.
  • Countering the CCP’s claim of supremacy in COVID-19 response by using social media campaigns in
  • Europe, India, Africa, and the Indo-Pacific to push out the truth about the U.S. response to the pandemic, including their status as a long-standing leader in global public health.
  • Continual coordination of foreign media analysis and response between the Group of Seven to ensure a synergy of effect – multiplying the efforts of all the countries to combat global propaganda campaigns.

Pointing to the U.S. intelligence community finding evidence of China purposefully underreporting their number of cases and deaths from COVID-19, the report said, “The global health community relied on these early Chinese reports to plan responses in other countries, and such underreporting may have led other countries to operate under false assumptions regarding the spread of the virus.”

The report further takes aim at the WHO’s missteps, resulting in lost time to adequately prepare for the disease.

“These preliminary investigations included China jailing any doctor that disseminated any information about COVID-19 not first cleared through state-run media. Additionally, the WHO failed to promote in a timely manner Taiwanese warnings of human-to-human transmission in December 2019; Taiwan is not currently recognized by the WHO as an independent nation. On January 23, 2020, the WHO finally recognized human-to-human spread was occurring – a month after the first warnings,” the report stated about the WHO’s now-infamous January 14 tweet.

“By the time the WHO declared COVID-19 a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) on January 30, 2020, the disease had infected almost 10,000 and killed almost 1,000 people in nineteen different countries,” it continued. “The Guardian has reported the delay in the PHEIC declaration was a result of intense pressure from China. While making the declaration, Dr. Tedros said ‘China is to be congratulated for the extraordinary measures it has taken to contain the outbreak.’ Since then, there have been over 2.5 million new cases and 175,000 deaths worldwide.”

Because the WHO criticized President Trump’s order to restrict travel to and from China and their continued praise for China “despite clear Chinese efforts to cover-up their complicity in the pandemic,” Oversight Republicans wrote to Dr. Tedros in early April demanding documents and a briefing. The request included:

  • All documents and communications regarding public health, including but not limited to COVID-19, novel coronavirus, or coronavirus, between the WHO and the Chinese Communist Party or the government of China between August 2019 and present.
  • All documents and communications regarding the total number of infected persons and deceased persons related to the current COVID-19 pandemic in China, including those infected but asymptomatic.

The Ethiopian Embassy contacted Oversight Republicans to confirm they had received the letter on April 11, but so far, no documents have been produced and the briefing has yet to be scheduled.

The top Republicans on the House Intelligence and Oversight and Reform Committees sent a letter on Wednesday to Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff (D-CA) asking the whistleblower, who sparked the impeachment inquiry, to testify publicly.

In a letter obtained by Townhall, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) and Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) said they were “surprised” when Schiff announced the “Committees will not receive testimony from the anonymous intelligence community employee…You had earlier committed that the employee would provide ‘unfiltered’ testimony ‘very soon,’ only to reverse course following the revelations that the employee had bias against President Donald Trump and that you had received a secret, early account of the allegations.”

Jordan and Nunes wrote since the impeachment inquiry “gathers information that contradicts the employee’s allegations, we ask that you arrange for the Committees to receive public testimony from the employee and all individuals he or she relied upon in formulating the complaint.”

They say the reason for the public testimony is so Congress can “fully assess the sources and creditability of the employee.”

“The fact that the whistleblower has three political biases against the President shows just how rigged this whole impeachment process is. It’s getting ridiculous,” a congressional source with direct knowledge of the matter told Townhall.

Jordan has blasted Schiff for running an “unfair partisan process” with Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) blessing.

“We can’t see the transcripts. He selectively leaks part of the transcripts and oh, in the interviews, no White House lawyers can be there. No agency lawyers can be there. The State Department can’t have lawyers there. The minority isn’t given subpoena authority. We can’t get the witnesses we may want to call to get the information for the American people,” he told Fox News on Monday.
