President Trump’s new appointment to fill a senior role at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence is already causing some controversy.

As Axios reports, the president’s critics have expressed disapproval over the selection, despite it not yet being officially announced.

From the report:

President Trump is seriously considering installing billionaire investor Steve Feinberg in a senior role at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, according to four sources familiar with the planning.

Why it matters: Feinberg would enter the ODNI at an especially fraught time — during a pandemic, an election year, and during a period where Trump has a deeply frayed relationship with his intelligence community.

The White House has discussed installing Feinberg in a staff role that doesn’t require Senate confirmation, according to sources familiar with the discussions.

Feinberg currently chairs the President’s Intelligence Advisory Board and has been a “staunch ally,” according to the report.

Jared Kushner, National Security Adviser Robert O’Brien, and White House Counsel Pat Cipollone have all been in discussions with the president on who he should select for the senior position.

Despite the rumored decision, however, it is not yet clear if Feinberg would then keep his post once Texas Congressman John Ratcliffe is confirmed by the U.S. Senate to be his next director of national intelligence.

Trump previously appointed U.S. Ambassador Richard Grenell to be the Acting Director of the United States National Intelligence and appointed Ratcliffe to be the DNI. The president said he would then allow Ratcliffe to determine his own staffing decisions, Axios reports.

The new hiring comes just days after Trump told lawmakers his intentions to fire Michael Atkinson, the intelligence community’s inspector general.

Here’s how some people are responding to Trump’s selection of Feinberg:

President Trump may have his disagreements with Republican Senator Mitt Romney, but he is glad to hear that he does not have the coronavirus.

The president said in a tweet on Wednesday morning that it was “really great news” that Romney tested negative for the coronavirus.

In the tweet, Trump said: I am so happy I can barely speak.”

“He may have been a terrible presidential candidate and an even worse U.S. Senator, but he is a RINO, and I like him a lot!” Trump said, referencing Romney’s White House bid in 2012.

The tweet came in response to Romney, who initially announced that he had tested negative in a tweet of his own.

After having met with fellow Republican Senator Rand Paul, who tested positive, Romney stayed home and was subsequently tested.

In a tweet on Tuesday afternoon, Romney shared that he was still going to remain at home in accordance with Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines.

“Thankfully I’ve tested negative for COVID-19,” Romney wrote in a tweet. “Nevertheless, guidance from my physician, consistent with the CDC guidelines, requires me to remain in quarantine as the test does not rule out the onset of symptoms during the 14-day period.”

Breitbart reports:

Romney and Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) flew back on a private jet to Utah after learning Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), who he had close contact with in recent days, tested positive for the illness.

“If I were to get COVID-19 or if Mike were to get it, we would certainly want to be in a place where we have our own physicians and our own hospital,’ Romney said in an interview the Salt Lake Tribune. “If I’m in Washington, D.C., I don’t have a relationship with physicians there. And I don’t even know which hospital you go to.”

Romney said he will miss a vote expected Tuesday evening on Congress’s rescue package designed to alleviate Americans’ financial strain caused by the coronavirus outbreak.

“It’s very frustrating not to be there in the room where it happens, as they say,” Romney stated. “But I am doing my best to influence thinking and action, particularly on the Democratic side of the aisle.”

Trump’s remarks were widely perceived online as having been sarcastic, though many shared the sentiment that they were glad Romney was not infected.

And, despite the worry that Senators and other members of Congress could become infected with the coronavirus, many are staying in Washington, D.C. to pass a coronavirus relief package to help spur the economy and help Americans who are suffering.

With not a single Democrat supporting the coronavirus relief bill that was presented before the Senate, lawmakers are back to the drawing board on how to help Americans during the pandemic.

The Daily Caller reports a new bill introduced by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi includes more than 1,100 pages of provisions that have nothing to do with coronavirus relief.

The bill will bail out the postal service, require early voting, same-day registration for voters, and require airlines to offset their carbon emissions before they receive funding, according to the report.

Conservative Partnership Institute Senior Director of Policy Rachel Bovard said the bill Pelosi introduced shows she is trying to hijack the coronavirus pandemic to push her own public policy initiatives.

“The country is burning and House Democrats would rather delay passage of direct relief to working families and small business so they can manipulate the way we conduct elections, bail out the postal service, impose greenhouse gas mandates on the airlines, and ensure diversity on corporate boards,” Bovard told the Daily Caller.

And:

The bill also reportedly gives unprecedented collective bargaining powers for unions, increases fuel emissions standards for airlines and expands wind and solar tax credits.

“The bill does take a strong step in prohibiting stock buybacks and limiting executive compensation and dividends from corporations who get taxpayer-funded loans. If she started and stopped there, that would be a helpful proposal. As it stands, it’s lost in the rest of the completely partisan Democrat agenda that is House Democrats response,” Bovard continued.

Pelosi said Sunday that she will halt negotiations with the Senate and move to pass her own coronavirus package in the House, which could drag things out longer than many expected. Pelosi’s legislation will be a $1.6 trillion emergency package, according to Politico.

A bill introduced by House Democrats would also increase the amount of money Americans receive but would require some Americans who receive personal checks from the government to pay them back next year.

Politico reports: “Democrats want to further plump the direct payments that would go out to Americans under the bill, proposing $1,500 per person, instead of the $1,200 on the table under the Senate measure laid out Sunday.”

“Unlike the latest plan from Senate Republicans, however, higher earners would have to pay back part or all of the assistance over three years if their taxable income is $75,000 or more for a single filer or $150,000 or more for couples filing jointly,” the report adds.

The bill would also be dolled out to more people, those “to anyone with a tax ID number, and to retirees and people who are unemployed, rather than just to people who file taxes for 2019 or get Social Security.”

Axios adds:

The “Take Responsibility for Workers and Families Act”:

Increases the amount of money being offered to individuals to $1,500, and up to $7,500 for a family of five. The same GOP income thresholds in the GOP bill would apply — $75,000 for individuals and $150,000 for couples, but the benefit would be available to anyone with an individual taxpayer identification number, retirees and unemployed individuals.

Waives $10,000 in federal student loan payments.

Dedicate $4 billion in grant funding to help states with upcoming elections and nationally mandates 15 days of early voting and no-excuse absentee vote-by-mail, including mailing a ballot to all registered voters in an emergency.

Includes a section that would cancel several executive orders and presidential memorandums that Democrats argue have weakened public sector unions’ ability to engage in collective bargaining.

Creates new carbon offset guidelines for airlines, with a long-term goal of reducing jet fuel emissions by 50% by 2050.

Allocates $150 billion to support hospitals, local health centers and government-funded medical programs, with an additional $80 billion in low-interest loans to hospitals.

Eliminates cost-sharing for coronavirus treatments and vaccines for all patients, including the uninsured.

Addresses broader health care concerns that Democrats have pushed for months, including increasing subsidies on the individual market and creating new incentives for states to expand Medicaid.

Provides child care assistance to health care workers and emergency personnel.

Would temporarily provide $600 per week to unemployed workers affected by the coronavirus. Self-employed workers, Americans whose contracts were canceled, and new entrants to the job market would also be eligible.

Expands paid sick leave and family medical leave, as well as gives more money to food-safety benefits.

Provides $500 billion in grants and interest-free loans to small businesses.

Creates a $200 billion stabilization fund for states and $15 billion for local governments through the Community Development Block Grant program. The legislation also authorizes the Federal Reserve to purchase state and local government bonds.

Pumps nearly $60 billion into schools and universities, with $50 billion directly provided to states for school funding and nearly $10 billion to higher education institutions.

Dedicates $20 billion to reimbursing the U.S. Postal Service for lost revenue, and forgives USPS debt.

Requires companies receiving federal assistance during coronavirus to institute a $15 minimum wage.

President Trump does not have the Coronavirus as his test came back “negative,” according to a White House spokesperson.

“This evening I received confirmation that the test is negative,” Trump’s physician Sean P. Conley said in a released letter per BizPac Review. “One week after having dinner with the Brazilian delegation in Mar-a-Lago, the President remains symptom-free.”

“Last night after an in-depth discussion with the President regarding COVID-19 testing, he elected to proceed,” Conley continued per ABC News. “This evening I received confirmation that the test is negative.”

The president took a coronavirus test after he was at a dinner with the Brazilian delegation, including Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, in Mar-a-Lago. Just days later, one of its members, press secretary Fabio Wajngarten, tested positive for the coronavirus.

Shortly after the positive prognosis, Trump was asked about his interactions with the Brazilian press secretary and whether he was worried that he could have caught coronavirus during their meeting.

“We did nothing very unusual. We sat next to each other for a period of time,” Trump said at the time, per the report. “Let’s put it this way: I’m not concerned.”

Some liberals online openly wished Trump harm, cheering the possibility of him testing positive for the coronavirus.

BizPac Review reports they also criticized the physician and claimed the result was fake:

And, of course, with the negative test result, it was the demoralizing impeachment acquittal all over again for the left.

The dregs of the media could only express their ongoing agitation and consternation after learning the president was still strong and healthy. The media wanted Trump to take a coronavirus test. But then after he did so, skepticism by the fake news about the results was at best cartoonish.

Former Vice President Joe Biden is the clear front-runner in the Democratic presidential primary, widening the gap between him and top contender Bernie Sanders in Tuesday’s half-dozen state contests.

As the results continued to be calculated, Biden was declared the winner time and again, even picking up Idaho—a state Sanders won in 2016.

The Hill reports the win was Biden’s fourth of the evening:

The Associated Press called the race for Biden just after 1 a.m. Wednesday. The former vice president led Sanders by nearly 5,500 votes with about 77 percent of precincts reporting.

Idaho’s primary, one of six nominating contests Tuesday, will award a total of 20 pledged delegates.

Biden’s win built on victories in Michigan, Mississippi and Missouri.

The Daily Wire reports Biden’s win in Michigan was also paramount as it too was a state Sanders took in 2016:

Though Biden picked up victories in states like Missouri and Mississippi by wide margins on Tuesday, as reported by The Daily Wire’s Emily Zanotti, Biden picked up a major, much-needed victory in Michigan over Sanders, a state that the socialist senator won in 2016 and desperately needed to win on Tuesday if he were to have any clear pathway to the nomination.

“At 10pm EST, two hours after polls closed, Biden was leading Sanders by that same 14 points, 54% to 40%,” reported Zanotti. “Both former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg, who exited the race for the Democratic presidential nomination last Monday, and Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, who beat a dismal exit from her own campaign last Wednesday, received support — 3% and 2%, respectively.”

Some analysts are concluding the states’ decision to switch from a revolutionary candidate like Sanders to a more establishment-type pick in Biden could be due to the options these states had in 2016, the Washington Examiner reports.

Their decision to back Sanders four years ago might be due to the candidate he was running against: Hillary Clinton.

From the report:

Analysts argued that the results show that Sanders’s major successes in his race against Clinton in 2016 had more to do with voters disliking Clinton than with the socialist inspiring a wide-reaching “revolution.”

The quick call in Michigan and the calls in other states mean that early data showed Biden won by such large margins that waiting for more results was not necessary. Biden was favored to win those states, but the large margins will help Biden expand his delegate lead.

Sanders was able to scrape together a win in North Dakota, his first of the day:

Former Vice President Joe Biden is now the undisputed front-runner in the Democratic presidential election after winning nine states and a total of 453 delegates.

The major win, though, is being shrouded with conversations about the process being rigged in his favor.

Just days before Super Tuesday—a coveted day in a presidential primary—candidates Pete Buttigieg and Amy Klobuchar dropped from running and endorsed Biden. These two would have likely pulled some support from him as they are all more moderate alternatives to socialist candidate Bernie Sanders.

Conversely, Elizabeth Warren is competing with the same voter bloc as Sanders and is staying in the running.

Conservative actor James Woods has a new theory about what could really be going on and it involves former twice-failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

“So I pretty much predicted this,” Woods said in a tweet, speaking of Biden ultimately winning the nomination. “It’ll be #Biden and #Hillary as his vice-presidential candidate. He will eventually ‘gracefully’ resign as his dementia worsens and… Voila!”

“#MadamePresident at last! (and in case he gets indicted for his Ukraine corruption, she’ll pardon him…” Woods added.

The theory got several people online talking about its merits. Many people said it was at least “plausible,” BizPac Review reports:

Democrats are mostly united in bringing forth articles of impeachment against President Trump and Republican lawmakers are most united against it.

BizPac Review reports a new poll from Suffolk University determined the American people are entirely split on the issue.

The survey done for USA Today asked 1,000 voters how they felt about impeachment and how it could affect the country.

Participants were asked:

A) The House of Representatives should vote to impeach President Trump.
B) The House should continue investigating Trump, but not vote to impeach him.
C) Congress should drop its investigations into President Trump and administration.

According to the report, 37 percent of people voted that the House should stop the impeachment inquiry dead in its tracks, while 36 percent of people said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Co. should continue their attempts to reverse or otherwise change the results of the 2016 presidential election.

Twenty-two percent of the people polled backed an investigation of the president but said the House should not vote to impeach him. This figure with the 37 percent to were wholely against the entire process brings the total people against impeachment to 59 percent.

Here’s more from BizPac Review:

This being “well below what could be called a groundswell,” wrote columnist Byron York.

“That means at the moment, according to Suffolk, there is a bare majority that does not believe Trump should be impeached for the phone call — which, of course, is the heart of the Democrats’ impeachment effort,” he added.

York offered an explanation of the ongoing dog and pony show being orchestrated by Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, who is leading the party’s campaign to unseat a duly elected

Not that the polling is currently working in their favor.

“Just as they did after the release of the Mueller report, Democrats now hope televised hearings will convince Americans that the president must be impeached,” York wrote. “It didn’t work out before. Now, the Suffolk poll suggests Democrats should be cautious as they try again.”

Rapper Kanye West defended President Trump and Republicans during his Sunday Service in Salt Lake City when he reminded those in attendance that it was the Republican Party that voted to end slavery.

“That’s the Republican Party that freed the slaves,” West said per the Washington Examiner.

The music icon went on to challenge his critics and those who insult him for allying himself with conservativism and President Trump.

West said he “chose” to break the mold and think for himself.

“And we got the right, right? We got a right to our opinions, right?” he asked per the report. “You black, so you can’t like Trump? I ain’t never made a decision only based on my color. That’s a form of slavery, mental slavery.”

Check it out:

According to the report, between 7,000 to 10,000 people attended the event, which West regularly holds.

West’s event comes as his latest push for Trump after taking some time away from politics.

The rapper has previously visited the White House and offered his support for Trump during a special appearance on Saturday Night Live.

The Washington Examiner adds:

West previously spoke about the concept of “mental slavery” during a controversial TMZ Live interview last year. At the time, he suggested that slavery was a “choice.”

“When you hear about slavery for 400 years … for 400 years? That sounds like a choice,” he said. “Like, you was there for 400 years and it’s all of y’all? It’s like we’re mentally in prison. I like the word ‘prison’ because slavery goes too direct to the idea of blacks. It’s like slavery, Holocaust. Holocaust, Jews. Slavery is blacks. So, prison is something that unites us as one race. Blacks and whites being one race. We’re the human race.”

West is one of Trump’s most famous supporters in the music industry, even visiting the White House to meet with the president last year. Around the same time, he appeared on Saturday Night Live and launched into a pro-Trump rant during the show’s credits.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi may be reconsidering her “no impeachment” rule after fellow Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez challenged her leadership.

In a weekend Twitter rant, the New York congresswoman said there was one thing worse than President Trump and his “lawbreaking behavior”: Democratic leadership.

The comment appeared to be a swipe at Pelosi and others that refuse to embrace impeaching Trump, regardless of how many other Democrats in the chamber support it. (Only 37 percent of voters support an impeachment effort).

“At this point, the bigger national scandal isn’t the president’s lawbreaking behavior — it is the Democratic Party’s refusal to impeach him for it,” Ocasio-Cortez said in a tweet on Sunday.

The Washington Examiner adds:

Ocasio-Cortez responded to one comment from the Atlantic’s James Fallows, who said, “[In my opinion], this is ‘false equivalence’ of its own sort. What Trump is doing remains objectively the biggest threat, scandal, and problem. Second-ranking: the silent acquiescence of the GOP Senate. Then: it’s time for House to act.”

The congresswoman replied: “It is one thing for a sitting president to break the law. It’s another to let him. The integrity of our democracy isn’t threatened when a president breaks the law. It‘s threatened when we do nothing about it. The GOP’s silence & refusal to act shouldn’t be a surprise. Ours is.”

Later that very same day, Pelosi offered a different tone altogether on President Trump and his controversial call with the Ukrainian president. The House Speaker seemingly left the door open on impeachment, calling for “a whole new stage of investigations.”

“If the administration persists in blocking this whistleblower from disclosing to Congress a serious possible breach of constitutional duties by the president, they will be entering a grave new chapter of lawlessness which will take us into a whole new stage of investigations,” Pelosi said per BizPac Review.

And, per the report:

Though the Democratic leader has previously resisted the idea of an impeachment inquiry over fears of the damage it could inflict on the more moderate Democratic members of the House, she issued the warning of an escalating investigation of the administration. appearing to relent to pressure from demands by Ocasio-Cortez and others on the left.

Pelosi demanded the whistleblower’s complaint be provided to Congress in her letter, and called on lawmakers on both sides of the aisle to act in the wake of the administration blocking Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire from releasing the document which reportedly related to a conversation between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in July about potentially investigating Joe Biden and his son, Hunter.

“The administration is endangering our national security and having a chilling effect on any future whistleblower who sees wrongdoing,” Pelosi wrote.

Pelosi continued: “We must be sure that the president and his administration are always conducting our national security and foreign policy in the best interest of the American people, not the president’s personal or political interest.”

And, via BizPac Review: “I am calling on Republicans to join us in insisting that the acting DNI obey the law as we seek the truth to protect the American people and our Constitution. This violation is about our national security. The Inspector General determined that the matter is “urgent” and therefore we face an emergency that must be addressed immediately.”

President Trump is looking to enact powers under the Insurrection Act to remove illegal immigrants from the country, the Daily Caller reports “multiple senior administration officials” have told them.

According to the report, the Insurrection Act of 1807 gives Trump the authority to use the National Guard and the military to challenge “unlawful obstructions, combinations, or assemblages, or rebellion against the authority of the United States,” on U.S. territory.

From the Daily Caller:

An official expressed concerns that Trump’s use of the act’s powers would face legal challenges, pointing to the lawsuits against the president’s travel ban from majority-Muslim countries. However, as the official noted, the travel ban ultimately prevailed in the Supreme Court.

In addition to the Insurrection Act, the president is also considering declaring the country full and insisting that the U.S. can no longer handle the massive influx of illegal immigrants. 2019 is currently on pace to reach the highest levels of illegal immigration in a decade.

According to the report, one senior administration official said, “If you take a ship and it holds 1,000 people maximum — one more person and the ship is going to collapse. The country is full.”

“Our hospitals are full, our detention centers are full,” the official continued.

BizPac Review reports these comments echo ones made by President Trump last month: “The system is full. We can’t take you anymore. Whether it’s asylum, whether it’s anything you want, it’s illegal migration, we can’t take you anymore,” he said in a statement at the time.

“Our country is full, our area’s full, the sector is full. We can’t take you anymore, I’m sorry, can’t happen,” he said. “So turn around, that’s the way it is.”

And, from BizPac Review:

Thanks to both an influx of roughly 75,000 illegals per month and a reduction in available immigration enforcement resources, overcrowding continues to spiral out of control.

Just last weekend The Washington Post confirmed that overcrowding at certain U.S. Border Patrol stations has become so severe that officials “have taken the rare step of using aircraft to relocate migrants to other areas of the border simply to begin processing them.”

“Homeland Security officials requested the aircraft because Border Patrol urgently needs to move single adults out of the lower Rio Grande Valley of South Texas. The agency is scrambling to make room for the large volume of families and children who have come across the border in dramatically higher numbers in the past several days, officials said.”

President Trump may have hinted utilizing the act when he tweeted on Friday, “All people that are illegally coming into the United States now will be removed from our Country at a later date as we build up our removal forces and as the laws are changed.”

“Please do not make yourselves too comfortable, you will be leaving soon!” he added.
