During Thursday night’s presidential debate, former Vice President Joe Biden stepped onto a political landmine that will certainly cost him with working class Americans when he pledged to “transition” from the oil industry throughout his administration.

“Would he close down the oil industry?” Trump asked. “Would you close down the oil industry?”

“I would transition from the oil industry, yes,” Biden responded.

“That’s a big statement,” Trump shot back.

“It is a big statement, because … the oil industry pollutes significantly,” Biden emphasized, later adding: “It has to be replaced by renewable energy over time, over time. And I’d stop giving to the oil industry — I’d stop giving them federal subsidies. [Trump] won’t give federal subsidies to solar and wind. Why are we giving it to oil industry?”

“We actually do give it to solar and wind, and that’s maybe the biggest statement in terms of business … because basically what he’s saying is he is going to destroy the oil industry. Will you remember that, Texas? Will you remember that, Pennsylvania? Oklahoma?” Trump concluded.

The Twitter reactions to Biden’s statement were swift and fierce for what might have arguably been his biggest mistake of the evening.

“Biden wants to ‘transition’ away from the oil industry. He just killed paycheck earned by hardworking families in Texas. Joe just wants to transition away from Texas. Remember that on election day,” tweeted Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R).

“Trump campaign is gonna roll out a massive ad buy in Pennsylvania with that idiotic Biden answer about oil. Unless someone shows me a map with a path to victory for Biden when he loses Florida (which he will) and Pennsylvania, that might have sealed the deal tonight,” tweeted Jesse Kelly.

“Joe Biden just said he would transition from the oil industry. That means kill the oil industry. The moderator’s response ‘why would you do that?’ was hilarious. She sounded confused why he would do this to his campaign. His far left plan slipped out. Massive error by Joe,” tweeted Robby Starbuck.

“Biden defense team (the media) working overtime to say that Biden‘s biggest error — saying he wants to end the oil industry — is no big deal and isn’t that what we all say in our hearts anyway? Oil industry one of the largest in country and particularly in some key states,” tweeted Mollie Hemingway.

“HOLY COW Trump asks Biden if he would shut down the oil industry and he says, ‘I would transition from the oil industry, yes,’” tweeted NRO’s Kyle Smith.

“The problem we have right now is we’re in Donald Trump’s America”

Now that the rioting across America is reportedly beginning to negatively affect his polling numbers, former Vice President Joe Biden blamed the outbreak of violence solely on Trump, even going so far as to say that the president is “rooting” for it.

Speaking with MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell, Biden said that President Trump wants as much chaos in the streets as possible because it benefits him politically.

“The problem we have right now is we’re in Donald Trump’s America,” he said. “You know, to quote [Kellyanne] Conway, she said, and I’m paraphrasing today, that they’re looking for more violence and more disruption because it helps them politically. He views this as a political benefit to him, you know. He’s rooting for more violence, not less, and is clear about that. And what’s he doing? He’s kept pouring gasoline on the fire. This happens to be Donald Trump’s America.”

Joe Biden then shifted his attention over to the COVID-19 pandemic, declaring it “out of control” and wondering why the president does not focus on that more.

“Donald Trump’s America, COVID is out of control, he’s doing very little … he didn’t prepare for it, he hasn’t responded to it, and he continues to be in a position where he does nothing to deal with it. We have 15 million people out of work. It just is amazing how, if you noticed, they didn’t speak about COVID, and they didn’t speak about any of the reasons why we’re doing what’s happening in Kenosha is happening.”

Biden added that he condemns violence “in any form,” asserting that he spoke with the family of Jacob Blake, who also did not condone violence.

“I condemn violence in any form, whether it’s looting or whatever it is,” he said. “And by the way, when I spoke to the family, the mom was really incredibly straightforward. She said, this is not who we are as a family, this is not who my son is, we condemn the violence. So who’s rooting for the violence here?”

Andrea Mitchell then asked if it was appropriate to say that President Trump is actively rooting for violence for the political benefits it may have. Biden said it was appropriate.

“I think he views it as a political benefit,” Biden said. “I had a quote here from Kellyanne Conway, she said, ‘The more chaos and anarchy and vandalism and violence reigns, it’s better for us. It’s a very clear choice it presents for us.’ When has a president or a spokesperson for a president ever said something like that, ever?”

Earlier this week, CNN anchor Don Lemon openly worried that violence in cities like Kenosha, Wisconsin, could cost Joe Biden the White House in November if the Democratic Party does not take a more forceful stand against the unrest.

“I do think that what you said was happening in Kenosha is a Rorschach test for the entire country, and I think this is a blind spot for Democrats,” Lemon said on Tuesday night. “I think Democrats are ignoring this problem or hoping that it will go away, and it’s not going to go away.”

“So unless someone comes up with a solution over the next 73 days or 70 so, however many days — 68 days — so the problem is not going to be fixed by then, but what they can do — and I think maybe Joe Biden may be afraid to do it, I’m not sure, maybe he won’t, maybe he is,” Lemon continued. “He’s got to address it. He’s got to come out and talk about it. He’s got to do a speech like Barack Obama did about race.”

“He is now number two in jerseys sales…”

It turns out that bucking woke trends may be good for business, because jersey sales for Orlando Magic player Jonathan Isaac have been surging since he decided to stand alone for the national anthem last Friday, becoming the first NBA player to do so amid the current spate of Black Lives Matter activism.

“Two days after the Magic’s game on Friday, Isaac’s jersey sales surged on the NBA’s store,” reports Fox News. “As of Sunday, Isaac’s jersey is the second-best seller on the league’s website behind only Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James.”

Top Ball Coverage tweeted, “Jonathan Isaac’s jersey sales have skyrocketed after he stood for the National Anthem. He is now number two in jerseys sales among players only behind LeBron James.”

Isaac also chose to wear his team jersey and did not wear a Black Lives Matter shirt like his other teammates. Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with a torn ACL on Sunday night after going down with an injury in a game against the Sacramento Kings. Speaking with reporters after the game, Isaac said a lot of thought went into his decision to stand, citing his Christian faith.

“Do you believe that black lives matter?” a reporter asked Isaac afterward.

“Absolutely. I believe that Black Lives Matter,” he said. “A lot went into my decision, and part of it is, I thought that kneeling or wearing the Black Lives Matter T-shirt doesn’t go hand-in-hand with supporting Black lives. So I felt like, just me personally, what is that I believe is taking on a stance that, I do believe that Black lives matter, but I just felt like it was a decision that I had to make, and I didn’t feel like putting that shirt on and kneeling went hand-in-hand with supporting Black lives. I believe that for myself.”

“My life has been supported through the gospel, Jesus Christ, everyone is made in the image of God and that we all fall short of God’s glory, and that each and every one of us each and every day do things that we shouldn’t do, we say things that we shouldn’t say, we hate and dislike people that we shouldn’t hate and dislike, and sometimes it gets to a point where we point fingers about whose evil is worse, and sometimes it comes down to simply whose evil is most visible,” Isaac continued.

Sports commentator Tony Dungy heaped praise upon Isaac for standing for the National Anthem, saying that people should listen to him.

“We’ve said people should be able to exercise their right to kneel during the National Anthem and we should listen & hear their reasons why,” Dungy said on Twitter. “When Jonathan Isaac chooses to stand we should do the same.”

“He explained his reasons very clearly-he wants to stand in prayer,” he added. “I say Amen!”

Dungy even said he would often pray during the National Anthem as a coach. “I stood and prayed during every National Anthem for the 13 years I was a head coach,” he said. “I think God is concerned about our attitude when coming to Him more so than our posture.”

Sports journalist Jason Whitlock also said: “Jonathan Issac… The walk of a Christian is the path least traveled. Issac bows to Jesus, not social media branding. He’s walking the walk!”

Delivering another round of bad news, Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, expressed his doubts that the National Football League will be able to resume in the fall.

Speaking with CNN, Fauci said that the NFL would have to essentially follow the model set by the NBA and the MLS by creating a close-knit community for the athletes and their families to keep COVID-19 from infiltrating.

“Unless players are essentially in a bubble – insulated from the community and they are tested nearly every day – it would be very hard to see how football is able to be played this fall. If there is a second wave, which is certainly a possibility and which would be complicated by the predictable flu season, football may not happen this year,” said Fauci, as reported by CBS Sports.

The NFL’s Chief Medical Officer Allen Sills said that the NFL stands ready to make adjustments as needed, though he does believe that the creation of a “bubble” is impractical.

“Dr. Fauci has identified the important health and safety issues we in the NFL players Association, together with our joint medical advisers, or addressing to mitigate the health risk to players, coaches and other essential personnel,” said Sills in a statement. “We are developing a comprehensive and rapid result testing program and rigorous protocols that call for a shared responsibility from everyone inside our football ecosystem. This is based on the collective guidance of public health officials, including the White House task force, the CDC, infectious disease experts, and other sports leagues.”

“Make no mistake, this is no easy task. We will make adjustments as necessary to meet the public health environment as we prepare to play the 2020 season as scheduled with increased protocols and safety measures for all players, personnel and attendees,” he continued. “We will be flexible and adaptable in this environment to adjust to the virus as needed.”

According to ESPN, players in the NFL could be tested for COVID-19 every three days and be immediately quarantined if they test positive. This past May, Dr. Fauci said it was most likely “impossible” that sports would resume as scheduled.

“I say you can’t have a season – it’s impossible,” Fauci said. “There’s too much infection out there. It doesn’t matter what you do. But I would hope that by the time you get to September it’s not gonna be the way it is right now.”

Fauci has previously expressed doubt about the possibility of schools resuming normal schedules in the fall, which prompted a sharp rebuke from Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY).

“I think that … we’re going to have a national one-size-fits-all approach – nobody’s going to go to school, is kind of ridiculous,” Paul told Fauci. “We really ought to be doing it school district by school district, and the power needs to be dispersed because people make wrong predictions.”

Snapchat has decided to take a policy closer to Twitter regarding President Trump’s content in its Discover section, saying it helps to “amplify voices who incite racial violence.”

According to NBC News, the platform’s Discover section shows “content from news organizations, brands, celebrities and sometimes politicians.”

In a statement, Snapchat said that any account that incites “racial violence” will not be welcome on its platform.

“We are not currently promoting the president’s content on Snapchat’s Discover platform,” the company said. “We will not amplify voices who incite racial violence and injustice by giving them free promotion on Discover. Racial violence and injustice have no place in our society and we stand together with all who seek peace, love, equality, and justice in America.”

More from NBC News:

The latest posts to Trump’s Snapchat feature were the last few words of Trump’s statement from the Rose Garden on Monday afternoon. In his address, he claimed to have “strongly recommended to every governor to deploy the National Guard in sufficient numbers that we dominate the streets.”

The Snapchat post then features a news clip of Trump walking from the Rose Garden to St. John’s Episcopal Church. The next Snapchat post shows the president holding up a bible in front of the church.

Last week, Twitter decided to start providing fact checks and warnings that Trump’s content violates the company’s rules. In response to Snapchat’s recent shift in policy, Trump campaign manager Brad Parscale said on Wednesday that the company is trying to rig the 2020 election and that CEO Evan Spiegel “would rather promote extreme left riot videos and encourage their users to destroy America than share the positive words of unity, justice, and law and order from our President.”

“Snapchat hates that so many of their users watch the President’s content and so they are actively engaging in voter suppression,” he said. “If you’re a conservative, they do not want to hear from you, they do not want you to vote. They view you as a deplorable and they do not want you to exist on their platform.”

Last week, President Trump signed an executive order aiming to change a federal law that shields social media companies from being sued for content published on their platforms, arguing that those companies have an implicit bias against conservatives.

“The order also seeks to channel complaints about political bias to the Federal Trade Commission, an agency that the White House has asked to probe whether tech companies’ content-moderation policies are in keeping with their pledges of neutrality,” The Washington Post reported. “The order additionally created a council in cooperation with state attorneys general to probe allegations of censorship based on political views. And it tasked federal agencies with reviewing their spending on social media advertising.”

Since the 2020 race has been placed on ice, the Trump campaign has used its resources to buy up food from local restaurants to donate to hospital workers fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Since last Thursday, President Trump’s reelection campaign has been calling up local restaurants and ordering large amounts of food to be delivered to more than a dozen hospitals in New York, New Jersey, Washington state and Michigan,” a Fox News exclusive said.

The campaign had been making the orders anonymously until sources confirmed of the charitable operation with Fox News. One source said the effort was to kill two birds with one stone: support local restaurants while supplying medical workers with needed help. The campaign has already spent tens of thousands of dollars in the past few weeks, which they plan to continue to do in the coming days.

“They’re doing it as a donor who cares,” the source told the outlet. “So nothing politically is tied to it. … We’re just trying to, you know, show a thank you.”

“They’re trying to send things that are like, local restaurants that may need support [and] cool restaurant icons of the area that may need the business,” another source said.

As the source said, the orders were indeed placed anonymously, which several establishments confirmed. Giovanni’s Italian Deli in Secaucus, N.J., told the outlet that an anonymous individual placed an order for delivery to Hudson Regional Hospital. It included 40 platters of pasta, salads, and sandwiches.

“They only told us their first name,” a Giovanni’s employee told Fox News. “They called us, and they had us donate meals for the nurses and doctors – an assortment of things, 40 platters of pasta, salads, sandwiches. We’re happy to do it. Trust me.”

Fox News provided more evidence and confirmation of this anonymous charitable giving:

Sources told Fox News that the campaign also ordered from Nick’s Grill in Kirkland, Wash.; Chit Chat Diner in Morristown, N.J.; Turning Point of Long Branch, N.J.; and Antonio’s Trattoria in the Bronx, N.Y., among others.

The manager of Antonio’s Trattoria, in an interview with Fox News, said that a man called the restaurant Monday to have “100 individual orders” delivered to Lincoln Hospital in the Bronx.

“It was 20 penne vodkas, 20 pastas with tomato sauce, 30 chicken parmesans, and 30 house salads with grilled chicken,” the manager told Fox News. “He only gave his first name and said he wanted to remain anonymous.”

The Antonio’s Trattoria manager expressed thanks to the Trump campaign for using their business to help workers in need.

While the economy has certainly taken a hit during the pandemic, that does not mean businesses have stepped away from the challenge. In New York, for instance, a pizzeria earned itself free rent at its place of business after the landlord learned that they had donated hundreds of pizzas to hospitals around the city.

“All of the pizza getting made at Sauce Pizzeria – as many as 400 per day – are going straight to hospitals to feed health care workers pulling 14- or even 18-hour shifts as they remain on the front lines of the COVID-19 fight,” reported NBC New York. “Many of those nurses, doctors, and other medical staffers are so swamped helping patients every single day, many don’t have a moment to spare to grab something to eat.”

Comedienne Rosie O’Donnell tried to troll her arch-nemesis Donald Trump — only to discover that the joke was on her.

On Sunday, the woman who famously called the president a “s*** stain with a tinge of orange” launched a Twitter poll to see how many people favored impeachment; as it turned out, not that many. Out of 272, 582 people, only 42% said “Hell Yes” when questioned if Trump should be impeached while another 58% said “Hell No.”

As a result of the epic fail, Rosie deleted her Twitter poll, though it now lives on in the archives of our collective screenshots:

The trolls on Twitter had a field day mocking O’Donnell for not only launching a poll designed to diminish Trump, but also for deleting it when her plan backfired.

“Rosie O’Donnell provides the polls, until they don’t go her way. Then she deleted the results …” said one user.

“Rosie O’Donnell should delete her whole account. Every time she tweets Trump looks a wise man and I’m not a Trump’s supporter,” said another user.

“Patriots are coming out THIS HARD over a f***in Rosie O’Donnell Twitter poll … imagine our drive when it comes to election night! Never be discouraged you beautiful deplorables, the Dems have no chance,” said another.

Rosie’s poll comes shortly after she insisted there are over 100,000 concentration camps in the United States due to President Trump’s border policies. “Actually, legitimate scholars who study genocide say, yes, these are, in fact, the criteria for concentration camps, they meet them,” she said. “There are over 100,000 camps in nearly every state. There’s between 10,000 and 13,000 children, that could fill Radio City Music Hall twice. That’s how many children [are] unaccompanied, alone, in these camps.”

In terms of real, non Twitter-induced polls, a recent CBS News poll showed that a majority of Americans likely does not actually support the impeachment of President Trump and largely see the latest push by the Democratic Party as a mere tactic to sabotage his 2020 re-election chances. As The Daily Wire’s Ashe Schow reported on Wednesday:

As media outlets rushed to report recent polls showing Americans favor an impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump, a closer examination of those polls reveals far more about their bias.

It first should be noted that it is expected that after weeks of the media blasting headlines about Trump’s alleged crimes and violations it comes as no surprise that polls indicate Americans also think Trump has committed crimes. Former CBS reporter Sharyl Attkisson went a step further, diving into the CBS poll, which showed a majority of Americans favored the impeachment of Trump.

Attkisson looked into the poll for her column at The Hill, and discovered that while a majority did claim they favored an impeachment inquiry into Trump (55% to 45%), the poll overly sampled Democrats.

“A check of the poll data shows it interviewed 124 more Democrats than Republicans. That’s a statistically significant difference — 6 percentage points more Democrats than Republicans,” Attkisson wrote. “Assuming, for the sake of argument, that Democrats and Republicans generally respond along party lines, a sample that looked at 6 percentage points more Republicans instead of Democrats would blow the ‘headline’ that ‘a majority of Americans’ favors the impeachment inquiry. It would, theoretically, change the pro-impeachment inquiry majority to a minority: 49% favoring the impeachment inquiry, and 51% opposing.”

President Trump launched his campaign for reelection at a rally in Orlando, Florida, on Tuesday night. As the MAGA spirit revved the crowd’s excitement, people began chanting “CNN sucks,” prompting the network to cut away during the coverage.

“CNN cut away from its coverage of President Trump’s 2020 reelection campaign kickoff Tuesday night shortly after he spurred the crowd to chant ‘CNN sucks,'” reports The Hill. “Just minutes into his rally speech Tuesday at the Amway Center in Orlando, Fla., Trump referred to his 2015 campaign announcement as ‘a defining moment in American history’ adding to ‘ask them right there’ as he pointed to the media covering the event.”

At that point, the crowd chanted the infamous “CNN sucks” amid a mixture of boos. Typical of the president, he used the moment for a bit of fun.

“By the way, that is a lot of fake news back there,” the president said, prompting cheers from the audience. “You know what I say, the amount of press we have tonight reminds me of the Academy Awards before it went political and their ratings went down the tubes.”

At that moment, after only six minutes of broadcasting, CNN cut away to John Berman as the president’s voice faded into the background.

“All right. We’ve been watching the president kick off his reelection bid. He’s been on stage for about six minutes. Within two minutes he did talk about the economy, but within four minutes it was attacks on the media,” John Berman said. “So, he was talking about a bright rosy future but then quickly reverted to some of the same themes he has been talking about since he began running for president.”

The chant “CNN Sucks!” and attacks on the media in general have become a staple of Trump rallies ever since the 2016 election. On several occasions, Trump’s critics, such as CNN correspondent Jim Acosta, have cited the moment as an example of President Trump’s alleged “dangerous” war with the media.

“Just a sample of the sad scene we faced at the Trump rally in Tampa. I’m very worried that the hostility whipped up by Trump and some in conservative media will result in somebody getting hurt. We should not treat our fellow Americans this way. The press is not the enemy,” Acosta said in 2018 after Trump supporters mocked him with chants of “CNN sucks.”

Later, reporters pressed the White House to demand that Trump supporters stop disrespectfully chanting “CNN sucks” at rallies, arguing that it could inspire violence. Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders gave them zero leeway.

“Is the White House willing to say right now, in view of what happened with one of our TV colleagues last night, that it is wrong for his most vocal supporters to be menacing towards journalists doing their job in a situation like that or any situation?” The Daily Mail’s David Martosko asked Sanders at the time.

“We fully support a free press,” Sanders said. “There also comes a high level of responsibility with that. The media routinely reports on classified information and government secrets that put lives in danger and risk valuable national security tools … While we certainly support freedom of the press, we also support freedom of speech. And we think those things go hand in hand.”

“The U.S. embassies in Israel, Germany, Brazil and Latvia…”

It seems that the Trump administration is not treating LGBTQ pride as an extension of the United States and has barred several overseas embassies from waving the rainbow flag in concert with the American flag during Pride Month, reports NBC News.

Three American diplomats reportedly told the outlet that the Trump administration has expressly denied their request to wave the rainbow flag during the month of June.

“The U.S. embassies in Israel, Germany, Brazil and Latvia are among those that have requested permission from Trump’s State Department to fly the pride flag on their flagpoles and have been denied, diplomats said,” reports NBC News. “Although the pride flag can and is being flown elsewhere on embassy grounds, including inside embassies and on exterior walls, the decision not to allow it on the official flagpole stands in contrast to President Donald Trump’s claim to be a leader in supporting LGBTQ rights overseas.”

As to why the Trump administration has denied the request remains to be seen, though speculation is it sees LGBT rights and pride as two separate issues. For instance, the administration’s recent call to decriminalize homosexuality in countries such as Iran stems from an ideological impulse to see individuals treated with dignity and respect, which makes it a U.S. diplomatic endeavor, not an LGBT endeavor. It would be as if the embassies were to suddenly put crucifixes on the front lawns to stand in solidarity with persecuted Christians.

That being said, the Trump administration has only barred the pride flag for being placed on the flagpole alongside the U.S. flag, not on embassy grounds. Openly gay ambassador Richard Grenell of Germany told NBC News in a statement that the rainbow flag will be present in the Berlin Embassy.

“The President’s recognition of Pride Month and his tweet encouraging our decriminalization campaign gives me even more pride to once again march in the Berlin Pride parade, hang a huge banner on the side of the Embassy recognizing our pride, host multiple events at the Embassy and the residence, and fly the gay pride flag,” Grenell said.

The U.S. Embassy in Seoul, South Korea, will also be displaying the rainbow flag on the side of the building, not in concert with the American flag on the flagpole.

President Trump also formally recognized Pride Month this year by reiterating his administration’s position on decriminalizing homosexuality in other countries.

“As we celebrate LGBT Pride Month and recognize the outstanding contributions LGBT people have made to our great Nation, let us also stand in solidarity with the many LGBT people who live in dozens of countries worldwide that punish, imprison, or even execute individuals,” the president tweeted earlier this week.

In 2018, the GOP even introduced a bill in the U.S. House seeking to bar the rainbow flag from being displayed in concert with the American flag on U.S. Embassies. Contrary to initial reports, the bill did not single out LGBT flags and simply banned any flag that was not Old Glory.

“The United States flag is the single greatest symbol of freedom the world has ever known, and there’s no reason for anything but Old Glory to be flying over our embassies and posts around the globe,” Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-SC) said at the time.

“America will be a nation that believes forever…”

Earlier this week, while speaking before over 100 religious leaders at the National Day of Prayer dinner, President Donald Trump said prayer is the most powerful thing people can do, vowing that the United States would be a country that holds the practice in high esteem.

“America will be a nation that believes forever, and we certainly believe – more than anyone – the power of prayer,” Trump said at the dinner, according to LifeSiteNews. “It’s the most powerful thing there is.”

Christians, Muslims, Jews, Sikhs, and Hindus were all in attendance at the dinner. The president called it a moment of unity due to their shared love of God. “Tonight we break bread together united by our love of God, and we renew our resolve to protect the sacred freedom of religion – all of us,” he said.

As noted by CBN, Trump also pointed out the spate of anti-religious hate crimes that have erupted recently against Christians overseas and Jews on American soil.

“All of us in this room send our love and prayers to the Jewish Americans wounded at the Chabad of Poway shooting in California,” said the president. “And our hearts break for the life of Laurie Gilbert-Kaye who was so wickedly taken from us.”

“We mourn for the Christians murdered in Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday and grieve for the Muslims murdered at their mosques in New Zealand,” he added. “Here at home, we also remember the three historically black churches burned recently in Louisiana and the horrific shooting last year at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh.”

This is not the first time Trump has praised the power of prayer. Last year, he said on the National Day of Prayer that the practice “changes hearts and transforms lives.”

“Our country was founded on prayer,” Trump said in 2018. “Our communities are sustained on prayer and our nation will be renewed by hard work, a lot of intelligence, and prayer.”

The president’s praise of prayer came on the very same day his administration expanded conscience protections for health care workers, protecting doctors from the government forcing them to perform services against their religious beliefs, such as abortions. He touted this accomplishment at the National Day of Prayer Dinner.

“Just today we finalized new protections of conscience rights for physicians, pharmacists, nurses, teachers, students and faith-based charities,” Trump said. “They’ve been wanting to do that for a long time.”

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) denounced the new measure as a license to discriminate. “Religious liberty is a fundamental right, but it doesn’t include the right to discriminate or harm others,” Louise Melling, deputy legal director at the ACLU said in a statement. “This rule threatens to prevent people from accessing critical medical care and may endanger people’s lives. … Medical standards, not religious belief, should guide medical care.”

The Human Rights Campaign also denounced the new rule, arguing it would put LGBTQ patients at greater risk. “The administration’s decision puts LGBTQ people at greater risk of being denied necessary and appropriate health care solely based on their sexual orientation or gender identity,” HRC Government Affairs Director David Stacy said in a statement. “Everyone deserves access to medically necessary care and should never be turned away because of who they are or who they love.”
