In the 24 hours since a man attacked a Hanukkah celebration in Monsey, New York, the left is blaming Donald Trump for inciting the kind of antisemitism that led to the crime. Grafton Thomas was arrested for stabbing five people and has been charged with multiple counts of attempted murder, but some are targeting Trump.

The Washington Post on Sunday cited Trump’s critics in its report on the stabbings:

“Some House Democrats singled out the president for criticism, arguing that he has been insufficiently clear in denouncing anti-Semitism and has frequently perpetuated offensive stereotypes about Jewish people.

Earlier this month, Trump prompted an outcry from Jewish groups after he delivered a speech in which he sought to convince a Jewish audience that they had “no choice” but to vote for him or else they would lose money to Democratic presidential contenders’ wealth tax plans. He also said some Jews “don’t love Israel enough,” echoing a previous statement in which he questioned the loyalty of Jews who vote for Democrats.

The article named one Democrat who blamed Trump directly: Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN), another frequent critic of Trump, shared a tweet by a New York-based comedian who argued that the Monsey attack followed “3 years of anti-semitism from the Trump Administration.”

“So sad but predictable. His conduct has made unacceptable conduct acceptable,” Cohen said, appearing to blame Trump in part for the recent rise in attacks against Jewish people and members of other minority groups across the country. “It will take decades to cure.”

Washington Post correspondent and reporter for other leftwing media Mairav Zonszein said she held the White House “directly responsible” for the rise of antisemitism:

“Just to be clear, I hold the Trump White House directly responsible for the increasing violent attacks on Orthodox Jewish people in America. It should be clear now that exceptionalizing Jews — whether in a negative or positive light — endangers us and keeps us forever at risk,” Zonszein tweeted.

“I’m being personally attacked and insulted in what appears to be a coordinated fashion – for holding a president who has empowered white nationalists and normalized antisemitism. I feel threatened and scared as a Jew for the first time in my life,” Zonszein tweeted.

Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) blamed Trump and Rudy Giuliani on Twitter, linking to an op-ed he wrote in the Jewish publication Forward, including the false claim that Trump has not condemned extremism.

“Anti-Semitism is on the rise in America. And it’s being stoked by @realDonaldTrump who won’t condemn it and Trump’s lawyer, @RudyGiuliani, who just this week said he’s “more Jewish than Soros.” ICYMI, my @jdforward op-ed on what we must do,” Swalwell tweeted.

“This isn’t happening in a vacuum,” Swalwell wrote in the op-ed. “It’s happening as President Donald Trump and his allies dabble in hate-baiting propaganda. From refusing to unconditionally condemn the 2017 neo-Nazi rally in Charlottesville to accusing American Jewish Democrats of disloyalty, President Trump has tacitly or explicitly empowered extremism in ways not seen in generations.”

Arizona Democrat Nathan Schneider, who describes himself on Twitter as a “universal health care advocate, public education proponent, organizer, campaign manager/regional field director, and former House candidate” blamed Trump for the violence:

“Trump is directly to blame for this antisemitic violence and if we don’t take drastic steps to address this threat the attacks will become worse and more frequent. #Monsey,” Schneider tweeted.

The Times of Israel cited a Jewish lawmaker who blamed Trump:

Ofer Cassif, the only Jewish lawmaker representing the predominantly Arab Joint List in the Knesset, reacts to the Monsey stabbing by blaming it on US President Donald Trump.

“Hatred of human beings is infectious: Where Trump incites against Muslims and immigrants, anti-Semitic movements will thrive and Jews will be attacked,” he tweets.

“My condolences to the community and wishing recovery to the wounded, and hoping that the world manages to overcome a tsunami of racist hatred.”

The Jerusalem Post predicted this animus against Trump will play a role in the 2020 presidential election:

Those opposed to Trump will surely try to drop the antisemitism squarely at his feet. They will focus on the Jew hatred coming from the white supremacists, the neo-Nazis, the far Right, and say that Trump – with his divisive rhetoric, his use of what they say are antisemitic tropes, and his anti-immigrant policies and actions – has given them a back wind.

They will ignore all Trumps’ statements against antisemitism, all he has done for Israel, his recent signing of an executive order to combat antisemitism on campus, and the fact that he has a Jewish daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren. They will ignore all of that and say the antisemitism is his fault.

U.S. Ambassador to the European Union Gordon Sondland told the House Intelligence Committee impeachment hearing on Wednesday that President Donald Trump never told him directly that military aid to the Ukraine was contingent on the announcement of corruption investigations.

“President Trump never told me directly that the aid was conditioned on meetings,” Sondland said when answering questions from Daniel Goldman, the Democrat counsel and director of investigations for the committee.

“The aid was my own personal guess,” said Sondland.

Sondland also said Trump never mentioned an investigation about investigations being required for Ukraine to receive aid from the United States.

“I never heard from President Trump that aid was conditioned on an announcement of elections,” Sondland said.

Black Lives Matter and other anti-Trump groups held a rally on the grounds of the Capitol on Tuesday to call for President Donald Trump to be censured for what he said about Rep. Ilhan Omar’s (D-MN) controversial statement that “somebody did something” on 9-11.

People chanted ‘“Hands off Ilhan” and in a series of speeches blamed the president and Republicans for the rise of “white supremacy masked as white nationalism.”

Omar spoke at the event in praise of her homeland of Somalia and said the president and his Party are responsible for recent attacks on synagogues and mosques.

“At this moment, the occupant of the White House and his allies are doing everything that they can to distance themselves and misinform the public from the monsters that they created that is [sic] terrorizing the Jewish community and the Muslim community,” Omar said.

Omar said she is criticized because she is a Muslim woman.

“I also happen to be a refugee and immigrant from what they call one of the shithole countries,” Omar said, mocking the president for his alleged comments about war-torn countries like Somalia that drive their people out.

“The reality is that shithole country raised a very proud, dignified person,” Omar said. “Our circumstances may not always be perfect but that doesn’t lessen our humanity and I am not in the business of defending mine.”

Omar was not as complimentary of the United States.

“This is not going to be the country of the xenophobics,” Omar said. “This is not going to be the country of white people.”

“This is not going to be the country of the few,” Omar said. “This is the country of the many.”

“This is the country that was founded on the history of Native American genocide, on the backs of black slaves but also by immigrants,” Omar said.

According to her website: “Ilhan and her family fled the country’s civil war when she was eight-years-old. They lived in a refugee camp in Kenya for four years before coming to the United States, eventually settling in the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood of Minneapolis in 1997.”

The Senate voted down on Tuesday S.J. Res. 8, the Green New Deal Resolution, 0-57, with all Republicans, three Democrats, and one Independent voting against it.

Forty-three Democrats voted “present” and three Democrats — Sens. Joe Manchin (D-WV), Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ), and Doug Jones (D-AL) — voted against the resolution. Sen. Angus King (I-ME) also voted with Republicans against the measure.

Many Democrats — including Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA), who sponsored the resolution in the Senate — called the vote a “sham” because Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) called for it without scheduling any hearings.

“[Climate change] is the national security, economic, health care and moral issue of our time,” Markey said at a press conference at the Capitol ahead of the vote. “We must act now.”

“Republicans and President Trump may choose to be in denial about the consequences of climate change,” Markey said. “But to ordinary people, climate change is not politics. It is life and death.”

“It is not a resolution,” Markey said. “It is a revolution.”

But even if Democrats voted “present,” McConnell said Tuesday’s vote put them on the record in favor of the radical resolution, which calls for the transformation of the American economy and infrastructure, including ending air travel and retrofitting every building in America.

“I ask again if you believe the Green New Deal is the prescription for America, why would you not want to have a vote?” McConnell told reporters ahead of the vote.

Presidential hopeful Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) was also at the press conference with Markey and climate change activists.

“We don’t know if we can get to net-zero carbon emissions in 10 years, but why not try?” Gillibrand said.

The Green New Deal was introduced last month in the House by Democratic Socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY).

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) announced on Tuesday that the House Intelligence Committee he chairs has hired Daniel Goldman to be a senior adviser and lead the committee’s investigative operations as it continues its probe into the President Donald Trump campaign’s alleged collusion with Russia.

Goldman, who frequently appears as a legal analyst on NBC and MSNBC, worked as Assistant United States Attorney in the Criminal Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York from 2007 and 2017, according to his bio on the Brennan Center for Justice, a George Soros-funded organization that recently named him a fellow in one of its programs.

The Washington Examiner reported:

Goldman’s track-record on Russian crimes is extensive. While in the Manhattan U.S. attorney’s office, Goldman was the deputy chief of the office’s organized crime division, successfully prosecuting over 30 cases. He oversaw cases a slew of cases with Russian defendants, ranging from racketeering and money laundering to securities fraud and insurance fraud. He also oversaw the conviction for [the] murder of members of the Genovese family inner-circle.

In his role as a television legal analyst, Goldman has concluded Trump broke the law and conspired to hide it in order to win the 2016 presidential election.

In December of 2018, in an appearance on MSNBC, Chuck Todd asked Goldman about the reports that Trump was in the room when discussions about hush money payments were arranged for women who accused him of having an affair with them.

“Does this news that Trump was in the room make it easier to say the president also committed a felony?” Todd asked Goldman.

“Absolutely, Chuck, for two reasons,” Goldman said. “One is yesterday when the AMI (American Media Inc.) cooperation agreement was announced there was nothing in it that directly tied the president to AMI’s involvement in paying off Karen McDougal.”

“But now with this revelation that Trump was in the room with David Pecker and Michael Cohen as early as August 2015 — not 16 — but 15 … now we know that there were communications between Pecker and Trump-related to what is really a scheme — it’s a full-on conspiracy to cover up any illicit affairs that Donald Trump may have had that might have influenced the election.”

“So in two different way this makes things a lot worse for Trump,” Goldman said. “One, AMI just points the finger at Trump and Trump is now connected to the Karen McDougal payment in addition to Michael Cohen connecting him to the Stormy Daniels payment.”

“And two, it shows that this was a long-running plan … a long-running scheme, long before the Access Hollywood tape, well before the Michael Cohen and Donald Trump recording in October 2016, long before the Stormy Daniels payment.”

Mediate reported on another Goldman appearance on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, where he said he was confident Trump had broken the law to get elected:

When Joe Scarborough asked him if Trump can withstand the legal firestorm swirling around him, Goldman answered: “We already now know that the president has committed a felony in order to obtain the office of the presidency.

Trump tweeted about the sweeping investigations House Democrats have launched since regaining control of the chamber in the midterm election.
