Imagine that

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) refused to denounce socialism during a recent press conference, according to Fox News.

The apparent refusal comes amid Pelosi’s bid for another term as speaker of the House.

What are the details?
The outlet reported that during a Friday press conference, the network requested comment from Pelosi “several times,” including “multiple phone calls to Pelosi’s office,” regarding inquiries as to whether the long-serving Democrat opposes socialism and whether she would permit any self-identifying socialists elected in the Democratic caucus to hold leadership positions in the House.

“During a press conference on Friday, Pelosi acknowledged that there was a ‘difference of opinion’ among members of her caucus as a rift between moderates and progressives appears to have expanded following the 2020 election,” the outlet wrote, pointing out that in 2019, Pelosi had no problem insisting that socialism was “not the view” of the Democratic Party.

In her remarks, Pelosi said, “Our caucus has its differences. I would not want to lead in a caucus that was a rubber stamp, a rubber stamp, lockstep caucus. That’s called Republicans. We are the Democratic Party, and we have several exuberances in our midst, and that is representative of the districts that people come to Congress to serve, and we respect that.”

Fox pointed out that self-identified “democratic socialists” have been growing in the mainstream, including Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y).

“The subject of socialism is apparently becoming a growing concern among Democrats behind closed doors,” the outlet added. “A leaked recording from a Democratic caucus call showed Rep. Abigail Spanberger, D-Va., suggesting that socialism, in addition to ‘defund the police’ rhetoric, were to blame for several congressional defeats as their GOP opponents used the ideology as a bludgeon.”

In the recording in question, Spanberger can be heard saying, “We want to talk about funding social services, and ensuring good engagement in community policing, let’s talk about what we are for. And we need to not ever use the words ‘socialist’ or ‘socialism’ ever again. Because while people think it doesn’t matter, it does matter. And we lost good members because of it.”

Sen. Lindsay Graham (R-S.C.) on Tuesday shared the Fox News story and wrote, “How hard is it to renounce socialism if you really don’t believe in it? The reason she can’t renounce it is because the mainstream of her party — deep in their soul — backs socialism.”

In related news …

Ocasio-Cortez is reported to have insisted that Democrats and former Vice President Joe Biden’s presidential campaign dropped the ball in attempting to sway Latino voters in Florida.

President Donald Trump’s use of the term “socialist” when describing former Vice President Joe Biden’s agenda is also what could have cost the Democratic candidate significant Latino votes in Florida after Trump was successfully able to paint the Democratic candidate as a socialist.

Both wildly inappropriate and unsurprising

Journalist Drew Holden shared a lengthy — and alarming — list of media outlets, fellow journalists, and members of the Democratic Party who are threatening retribution against Republicans supporting President Donald Trump and his allegations of voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election and more.

Holden concluded the lengthy list — which you can read in its entirety here writing, “At the end of the day, I can’t imagine these folks will be shipping conservatives off to the gulags in a divided government, much as they would like to. But it fundamentally cuts against the spirit of America to suggest someone should be punished for their political views.”

“We are not some post-genocide society,” he added. “The suggestion that we need a Rwandan-styled Truth and Reconciliation Commission is preposterous. And free societies don’t develop political hit lists. This champagne fascism from the Left needs to stop. Now would be a good time.”

What are the details?

Holden on Saturday tweeted, “With Biden having been declared the winner (for now) by major media outlets, I figured it would be a good time to share some of the people who’ve threatened retribution against Trump supporters.”

“The list,” he added, “is a lot longer than I had anticipated it would be.”

Those on the list included former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich, who wrote, “When this nightmare is over, we need a Truth and Reconciliation Commission. It would erase Trump’s lies, comfort those who have been harmed by his hatefulness, and name every official, politician, executive, and media mogul whose greed and cowardice enabled this catastrophe.”

MSNBC’s Chris Hayes added, “The most humane and reasonable way to deal with all these people, if we survive this, is some kind of truth and reconciliation commission.”

The Nation magazine published a commentary on the subject titled “We’re Going to Need a Truth and Reconciliation Commission to Recover from Trump.”

The Philadelphia Inquirer published a similar piece titled “What Brings U.S. together in ’21? A Truth Commission? Or Something Else?”

Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (N.Y.) was at least one Democratic politician calling for a list as well.

She wrote, “Is anyone archiving these Trump sycophants for when they try to downplay or deny their complicity in the future? I foresee decent probability of many deleted Tweets, writings, photos in the future.”

Further, the Washington Post’s Jennifer Rubin said Republicans supporting President Donald Trump’s allegations of voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election should be ejected from polite society.

On Friday, Rubin — a “conservative” opinion columnist for the Post — tweeted, “Any R now promoting rejection of an election or calling to not to follow the will of voters or making baseless allegations of fraud should never serve in office, join a corporate board, find a faculty position or be accepted into ‘polite’ society. We have a list.”

In 2019, Rubin called for the Republican Party to ‘burn down’

During a panel discussion on MSNBC’s “AM Joy,” Rubin said that if any Republicans were in office by the time President Donald Trump vacated the White House, the remainder of the party should be razed — with no survivors.

“It’s not only that Trump has to lose, but that all his enablers have to lose. We have to collectively in essence burn down the Republican Party,” Rubin explained at the time. “We have to level them because if there are survivors, if there are people who weather this storm, they will do it again. They will take this as confirmation that, ‘Hey, it just pays to ride the waves. Look at me. I made it through.’ And so up and down the ticket, federal, state, and local offices, the country has to repudiate this.”

This time, Rubin made the remarks in response to the news that former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer was joining the cast of “Dancing with the Stars.”

Again, Rubin used the “polite society” argument.

“What we should be doing in shunning these people,” Rubin insisted in her remarks. “Shunning, shaming these people is a statement of moral indignation that these people are not fit for a polite society. I think it’s absolutely abhorrent that any institution of higher learning, any news organization, or any entertainment organization that has a news outlet would hire these people.”

Somehow this just doesn’t shake

A staff member on Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden’s campaign suggested that those with strong faiths — such as that of Orthodox Catholics, Jews, and Muslims — should perhaps not be permitted to serve on the Supreme Court, according to a report from National Review.

Now she appears to have gone missing from the internet as both her Twitter handle and LinkedIn account have been deactivated.

What are the details?
The staffer — Biden campaign Deputy Data Director for Pennsylvania Nikitha Rai — made the suggestion on Monday, intimating that a Supreme Court nominee’s faith should somehow disqualify them from serving as a U.S. Supreme Court justice.

According to the outlet, the remarks came during a Twitter exchange between Rai and Brookings Institute Senior Fellow Shadi Hamid during which Rai suggested Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett’s Catholic beliefs were problematic.

The outlet reported:

Hamid had responded to a tweet that said Barrett was a trustee at a Catholic school that opposed same-sex marriage as homosexual acts are “at odds with Scripture.” Hamid replied, “Wait, why is this news? Isn’t this the standard position for any orthodox Catholic?”

“Unfortunately yes,” Rai reportedly responded.

Hamid then went on to note that both Orthodox Muslims and Jews also typically hold the same values.

“True,” Rai purportedly agreed. “I’d heavily prefer views like that not be elevated to SCOTUS, but unfortunately our current culture is still relatively intolerant. It will be awhile before those types of beliefs are so taboo that they’re disqualifiers.”

National Review reported that a search for Rai’s Twitter account rendered a page that states “This account doesn’t exist.”

TheBlaze reached out to Rai for comment on the exchange via her then-active LinkedIn page. She did not respond. Moments later, she appeared to have deactivated her LinkedIn page as well.

At the time of this reporting, Google still lists her LinkedIn profile as an active link.

Comedian Jeremy McLellan shared a screenshot of the purported exchange between Hamid and Rai, captioned, “Here’s a @JoeBiden staffer saying that orthodox Christianity, Islam, and Judaism should be made ‘taboo’ and driven from the public sphere. Beneath all the talk of ‘interfaith’ and ‘pluralism,’ this is what they really believe.”

What else?

In 2017, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) also took Barrett — a vocal Christian and former clerk for late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia — to task over her faith during her Senate Judiciary Committee confirmation hearings to the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals, calling her “controversial.”

“Why is it that so many of us on this side have this very uncomfortable feeling that dogma and law are two different things, and I think whatever a religion is, it has its own dogma,” Feinstein said at the time. “The law is totally different. … The conclusion one draws is that the dogma lives loudly within you. And that’s of concern.”

The Senate confirmed Barrett to the 7th Circuit Court by a vote of 55-43 on Oct. 31, 2017.

His message is clear

Nick Sandmann is firing back at the American Civil Liberties Union staffer who publicly condemned Transylvania University for accepting his application to attend the Lexington, Kentucky, school.

Sandmann, the former Covington Catholic High School student smeared in 2019 for what many mainstream news outlets erroneously reported as “mocking” a Native American man during the March for Life, is now speaking out in defense of his conservative values.

Sandmann was the subject of much controversy and criticism, and his family filed lawsuits against media giants such as CNN and the Washington Post in response.

Both outlets settled defamation lawsuits with Sandmann earlier this year.

What are the details?

In an op-ed for Fox News, titled “I’m a pro-life conservative Republican college student who won’t let cancel culture silence me,” Sandmann — now a freshman at the Kentucky university — said he refuses to fall victim to “cancel culture.”

“Beginning the college year during the coronavirus pandemic is difficult enough for millions of students,” he wrote. “But the beginning of my freshman year at Transylvania University in Kentucky is being made even more difficult by an unwarranted attack against me by the cancel culture due to my conservative views.”

Recalling his time dominating 2019’s news headlines, Sandmann said enough is enough.

“[U]nbelievably, an official of the American Civil Liberties Union — a liberal group that claims to be dedicated to defending free speech — criticized the university last week for admitting me, saying my admission was a ‘stain’ on the school,” he explained.

The staffer, identified as Samuel Crankshaw — a Transylvania University graduate — said that Sandmann solely exists to “troll, intimidate, and play victim.” Sandmann, however, said he has never met Crankshaw — who he says knows nothing about Sandmann other than what he has read in the news.

“Yet still, he tries to cancel me and demand that I be denied admission to college,” he wrote. “Why? Because he seems outraged that my conservative values don’t align with his left-wing ideology.”

He warned, “If you are a conservative like me, watch out. The intolerant left might come for you, too.”

“Jonathan Turley, a scholar known for being a strong advocate of free speech, responded on his blog to defend the need for free speech and defend me from Crankshaw’s attack,” Sandmann noted.

Turley wrote:

I have previously written, as a long supporter of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), about my concern over how the venerable group has changed under its current leadership, including a departure from its long robust defense of free speech. Recently, the ACLU has abandoned its famed neutrality and has not supported some on the right while supporting those on the left.

Turley later added, “[I]t is far more alarming to see an ACLU official rallying people against a young man whose chief offense appears to be that he is publicly (and unapologetically) conservative and pro-life.”

Sandmann said, “Turley is right. Colleges have a reputation of being toxic places for conservative, pro-life ideas like the ones I hold. But an alumni assuming I’ll act in a certain way before even meeting me? Well, that’s a new low.”

He pointed out that he’s obviously not the only young conservative to be virtually pilloried for his beliefs and that conservative students across America regularly face this type of pushback.

“If the threats to students like me don’t come from the left-leaning administrators, the threats come from fellow students who call on campus leadership to cancel events or shut down student organizations that dare challenge their left-wing view of the world,” Sandmann added, blasting the notion of college and university “free speech zones” as “ridiculous.”

“Our entire country is a free speech zone, enshrined by our Founding Fathers in the Constitution,” the young man wrote. “And no one has the right to cancel the Constitution or its First Amendment.”

Anything else?

The newly minted college freshman went on to laud President Donald Trump and Kentucky Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, for remaining strong in the face of leftist pressure.

“Sen. McConnell and President Trump are the exact leaders we need at a time when liberal mobs take glee in destroying our lives and erasing our voices,” Sandmann said.

“Now more than ever, we need more speech, not less,” he reasoned. “We need to hear new ideas and to learn from others. That is exactly what I and so many students returning to school want to do. I invite Democrats to join us.”

He concluded, “[T]o those who are inclined to write my future for me, I say let me define myself. I will not be canceled.”

What in the world?

On “The ReidOut” on Tuesday, MSNBC’s Joy Reid compared President Donald Trump and his supporters to violent Muslim terrorists.

Needless to say, the blowback was swift and thorough, and the clip is going viral on social media.

What are the details?

In head-scratching remarks during Tuesday’s broadcast, Reid hosted Kenosha, Wisconsin, residents, and discussed the president, his supporters, and recent outbreaks of violence across the U.S.

“When leaders, let’s say in the Muslim world, talk a lot of violent talk, and encourage their supporters to be willing to commit violence — including on their own bodies — in order to win against whoever they decide is the enemy, we in the U.S. media describe that as ‘They are radicalizing those people.’ Particularly when they’re radicalizing young people. That’s how we talk about the way Muslims act,” she reasoned during the show.

What has been the response?

Political activist Jack Posobiec wrote, “Joy Reid just basically said Trump supporters are so violent they are like Muslims. Wow.”

“Wondering how fast an apology from Joy Reid is coming down,” politics podcaster Stephen Miller wrote.

It wasn’t just conservatives taking Reid to task over the remarks.

Progressive Indian actress and model Sana Saeed added, “This is appalling. @JoyAnnReid first just throws out ‘Muslim leaders’ encouraging ‘their followers’ to ‘use their bodies to inflict violence’ (which leaders?). Then compares ‘how Muslims act’ to American white nationalist radicalization.”

Women’s March co-chair and political activist Linda Sarsour said, “This is not good @JoyAnnReid.”

Abed Ayoub, legal and policy director at the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, added, “Wow. They really don’t get it. They are trying their hardest to turn our community away.”

Civil rights attorney Zahra Billoo said, “This isn’t even subtle. It’s blatant Islamophobia @JoyAnnReid.”

Famed socialist magazine journalist Luke Savage added, “These remarks are pretty appalling. Joy Reid’s subtext is more or less that Trump is ‘radicalizing’ his supporters, just like barbarians abroad do — ‘the way Muslims act’ is racism plain and simple.”

Ayesha Siddiqi, journalist and writer, said, “Joy Ann Reid went on msnbc to say Trump supporters are ‘acting like muslims’ bro I am just sitting here. I pray and then I sit at my computer and then I water my plants. what are you talking about.”

Neither Reid nor MSNBC has responded to the outcry at the time of this writing.

‘We need to hold these people accountable’

Seattle Police Officer Adam Fowler, who was injured Sunday night during the region’s latest riots, says that the ongoing demonstrations are becoming increasingly dangerous.

POLL: Will Joe Biden still be the Democratic Party’s presidential candidate when we get to November?
Fowler was one of six police officers who were injured Sunday. At least 18 people were arrested.

What are the details?

Fowler, who recounted his injury with KING-TV, was rushed to the hospital after a mortar went off near his eye.

“These aren’t tiny fireworks, they’re not firecrackers, these are commercial grade mortars,” Fowler told the local station. “One had been thrown behind me and when that detonated it hit me in the back and when I went back toward my patrol bicycle another went off.”

The brave officer said that he thought for certain he would lose his eye because of the explosion assault.

“The only think I could see was a bright flash and then a loud bang and what felt like a hammer hitting me in the face,” he recalled. “When I got hit, I lost my vision momentarily. I lost my vision probably anywhere from 30 seconds to a minute. It was just blurry in my left eye and my first initial thought was ‘I’m going to lose my left eye.’ That was pretty scary.”

Fowler said that while there is a large contingent of peaceful protesters, there are even more violent demonstrators bent on wreaking havoc in the streets and instilling violence on the opposition.

“[W]e have this separate group that now is [there] every night,” he said. “It can range between 50 people all the way up to 200 people. … Those people are very violent, very destructive. They are ruining things. They want to harm us, harm businesses, harm things in Seattle and then quickly try to turn the story on us like we have created something bad when they are going out and seeking us out every night to try to cause these issues.”

Time to hold those accountable

Fowler said that the only way to stop the violence is to “hold these people accountable” for their actions.

“We need to have follow-through,” he insisted. “We need to hold these people accountable for going out and doing the things that they’re doing, because it’s not going to get better if they’re not held accountable for it.”

The Seattle officer added that local police are feeling the strain of having to deal with such abuses night after night.

“Morale is not super great right now,” he admitted. “It’s pretty low and a lot of people feel the same way that I feel and are very frustrated. People want to be appreciated.”

Imagine that

A Monday report from the House GOP says that the COVID-19 pandemic could have been prevented if China had not engaged in a large-scale cover-up in the early stages of the localized epidemic.

The report also condemns the the World Health Organization for enabling the cover-up.

What are the details?

Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Texas) issued a statement on the report, which said, “After months of investigating, it’s become crystal clear the Chinese Communist Party’s cover-up of the coronavirus, especially in the early days of the outbreak, played a significant role in turning what could have been a local epidemic into a global pandemic.”

A portion of the report states, “Until the CCP agrees to cooperate with the WHO, other countries, and the international scientific community, it will be impossible to gather the concrete evidence needed to prove, or disprove.”

The report also blasted the WHO, insisting that its complacency enabled the communist country’s response to the outbreak, and called for WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus’ resignation. The report insisted that Tedros “seriously erred in his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic” and should “accept responsibility for his detrimental impact on the COVID-19 response and resign.”

“The health of the world cannot afford incompetence and poor management,” the report added, insisting that the organization “only exacerbated the problem by repeatedly ignoring warnings about the severity of the virus, including from their own health experts, while at the same time parroting the CCP’s propaganda without independently confirming their claims.”

Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-N.Y) tweeted the report on Monday, writing, “Must Read Report by @RepMcCaul @HouseForeignGOP Just Released! ‘The origins of the COVID-19 global pandemic, including the roles of the Chinese Communist Party and the World Health Organization[.]’ China lied and people died. The facts are all getting out.”

What else?

The WHO has remained under the microscope after reportedly botching its initial response to the coronavirus pandemic.

In April, President Donald Trump cut funding to the WHO over its purported role in parroting China’s lies and misinformation about COVID-19 and its origins and transmission.

Following the massive worldwide outbreak, the WHO did not call out the Chinese government when it refused to admit that it misled the global community about the virus and its method of transmission.

U.S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams said that he wants to recruit America’s “influencers” to help flatten the curve on the COVID-19 outbreak that has gripped the country — such as billionaire socialite Kylie Jenner.

What are the details?

Adams, who appeared on Thursday’s “Good Morning America,” said that the 22-year-old social media star was a prime pick for such a job.

“What I really think we need to do [is] get our influencers [involved],” he said.

He also said that NBA stars Kevin Durant and Donovan Mitchell would also be good figureheads to spread awareness. Both players were infected with COVID-19 earlier this month.

“We need to get Kylie Jenner and social media influencers out there, in helping folks understand that, look, this is serious, this is absolutely serious,” he insisted. “People are dying.”

He also added that the younger generation is simply keen to do what they see fit without any regard for others’ opinions. Using his own teenage children as an example, Adams noted, “[T]he more I tell them not to do something, the more they want to do it.”

Adams added that young people seemingly aren’t as impervious to the disease as previously assumed.

“We are seeing new data from Italy that suggests that young people may be at a higher risk than what we previously thought,” he warned. “Think about your grandfather, think about your grandmother, think about the fact you’re spreading disease that could ultimately be what kills them.”

ABC’s “Good Morning America” shared a snippet of the interview on its Twitter page, captioning it, “Surgeon General Dr. Jerome Adams on millennials and the coronavirus: ‘We need to get our social media influencers out there and helping folks understand that look this is serious.'”

What’s Kylie saying these days?

On Wednesday, Jenner said that her pregnancy in 2018 helped her prepare for the repercussions of COVID-19 — or similar — outbreak.

“My pregnancy prepared me for this. I didn’t leave the house for months,” she admitted during a recent Instagram story, according to E! Online.

On Tuesday, Jenner updated her Twitter page, writing, “[I] hope everyone is feeling well! it’s so important right now to self quarantine to ensure we aren’t endangering ourselves or anyone who can’t handle this virus.”

Leftist actor Alec Baldwin blasted the GOP and President Donald Trump, comparing the party to Nazis and the president to Adolf Hitler.

What are the details?

In a fiery Twitter rant, Baldwin — who regularly portrays a parody of Trump on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” — warned people that Republicans are rallying around Trump in the same way Nazi supporters rallied around Hitler.

In response to the news that the Department of Justice wants to reduce Roger Stone’s sentence, Baldwin, 61, wrote, “It’s official. The United States government is as lawless as the malignant dictatorships we’ve hated in our foreign policy since WWII.”

In November, a court found former campaign associate Roger Stone guilty on five counts of lying to Congress, one count of obstructing a congressional investigation, and one count of witness tampering. All charges stemmed from special counsel Robert Mueller’s collusion investigation, which was later discovered to be unfounded.

In a later tweet, Baldwin ranted, “Remember that fascistic thinking takes hold when a standard of living is threatened consistently. People think that things are changing, and downward for most Americans. And that this will become the new normal. They are wholly directed by $.”

The actor later on made an even more overt comparison to the Nazi party.

“You wonder how Hitler took control of a once great country,” he wrote. “For those of you too young to recall the War or its aftermath, simply watch how this GOP-controlled Senate behaves. Their sniveling fealty and lack of courage. And you begin to get it.”

If she becomes president, that is

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) said recently that she will not move forward in naming an education secretary should she win the 2020 election unless a young transgender person signs off on the candidate.

What are the details?

During a Sunday town hall event in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Warren said she would begin by encouraging a trans youngster to sit down and have a face-to-face discussion with anyone Warren might consider for the post of education secretary.

The remarks, according to The Daily Caller, were prompted by a voter who said that children should be learning more about LGBTQ history and inclusivity.

“I have two qualifications that I have talked about over and over for my secretary of education,” Warren said in the Daily Caller story. “The first, it has to be someone who has taught in a public school.”

Warren added that she would have a young trans person interview the education secretary candidate on her “behalf.”

“Part two? Because it came from a young trans person who asked about ‘welcoming community,’ and I said, ‘It starts with a secretary of education who has a lot to do with where we spend our money, with what gets advanced in our public schools, with what the standards are,'” she continued. “And I said, I’m gonna have a secretary of education that this young trans person interviews on my behalf.”

The Democratic presidential candidate explained that she will only go forward in accepting the candidate for education secretary if the transgender child believes the secretarial candidate is equipped do a good job — in this case, “committed to creating a welcoming environment” — in his or her role for the U.S. government.

“[O]nly if this person believes that our secretary … of education nominee is someone who is committed to creating a welcoming environment, a safe environment, and a full educational curriculum for everyone, will that person actually be advanced to be secretary of education,” she added.
